Looking for Options

Hi there,

Hoping for some guidance from people with more knowledge than myself around this. Sorry for the dump of information, just trying to get my head around our options.

So myself (39), my wife (46) (and our 3 children (currently 6, 8 and 13)) and my sister in law (49) are looking at jumping the pond from the UK to Canada and looking at what the best way to go about it would be. I have family (Aunt and cousins) there and we both have friends over there too. We collectively (myself, wife and sister in law are all named on the incorporation documentation) own three businesses which we would be looking to move across to Canada (two are fairly new and one long standing). I also do IT Contracting along side the businesses too which I technically can do from anywhere in the world. The businesses are online businesses and have a collective turnover of roughly just shy of $300k CAD so I presume they could support us happily (baring in mind too that two of the businesses are fairly new and estimations are their profits will increase too).

The question is what would be the smoothest way to get us across? Is just moving the businesses to Canada a viable route (entrepreneurship visa I think it was called?).

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

You need to look at PNP entrepreneur programs. It is based on your net worth, business plan, interviews etc. The point of entrepreneurship programs is to show economic benefit in Canada so you want to show that you will be hiring Canadians and employing a number of people in Canada. Your sister-in-law would be a separate application. So she would need to show her own net worth and meet the requirements. It is not just about supporting your family. You must also invest a significant portion of your net worth into the business. This is not a self employment program but a program to build a business that hires and supports Canadians. Ontario's program is in the link.

Your ages will make it difficult to qualify through a program like Express Entry. Having said that, calculate your scores all the same to check. You want a score of 480+ for this option to feasible. Otherwise invesgiate the PNP programs. There are entrepreneurship programs. You may want to start by researching the Start Up Visa program. This requires you to find a designated organization in Canada willing to fund your business idea.

Note that your sister in law will have to qualify independently and cannot be included in your application. You also cannot sponsor her later. If it is critical that she come with you, she needs to make sure she qualifies to immigrate independently (i.e. meets the requirements of one of Canada's immigration programs and has enough points to be selected all on her own based on her work experience, education, etc.).
