Hi everyone,

I’m looking for anyone who has entered Canada on their PR status with only a few months left on their PR card or knows someone who has.

Here’s my situation: I entered Canada on PR status in August 2020, stayed for about a week, and came back. Post that, lived and worked in Canada for around 4 months in 2023. My PR card is expiring in August 2025, and I haven’t met the 730-day residency requirement over the last 5 years (have stayed for a total of 120 days till now).

I’m wondering if I can still return to Canada without any issues, and what challenges I might face at the border or during PR card renewal. Any insights, advice, or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I'm planing to go on 1st January, 2025.

Thank you!

Multiple threads on this here, including experiences.

At the border, you might get asked questions about your reasons for not being compliant - give them the best reasons you have. They might write you up (starting process of PR revocation), they might give you a light warning or a note to file. No-one can tell you the chances except to say that your chances are decent.

If you're let in - stay until you're in compliance, and don't apply to renew your PR card until then. For the most part you'd only need the Pr card to travel anyway.

Would add that if you applied for a health card you were never entitled to one since you didn’t meet the residency obligation to receive provincial healthcare in any province. You must reapply for a health card.
