Im using NUEra Telecom, $10cents/minute to the Philippines,, I paid about $100/month or so. I don't know if there is more cheaper for that, also $1cents/minute within Canada.

Since most of us are living away from our loved ones, I thought I would create a thread specifically to list all the long distance calling products and services.

I personally didn't know of a cheaper service before member "ONE 2 KA 4" recommended Ring123.com for Pakistan only 2cents/minute!

Please list what you are using right now, where do you call and how much are you paying by the minute or whatever the plan details are.

Let's share and help each other out in reducing our phone bills. ;)
I only access on the internet and then i use viber for unlimited text messaging and the call feature is as good as when you are using a regular phone call. That is only applicable if your partner has an access too on an internet.. i also used magic jack before i think even if your partner doesn"t have internet access you can still call him or her its just sometimes magic jack doesnt have a good quality for phone calls. and im not really sure if this application is available in your country. but i hope others will have the idea.

When you guys use Skype, remember to take print screen pic of the entire window just before signing off. The pic should show both your faces, the date/time on the desktop, and the duration of the chat. This is a great way to show the CIC that you are communicating often and for a long time because they will see the dates change, your clothes change, and can see that you guys are really talking everyday.

nuera is the worst telecom company ever. they add so man extra charges at the end your paying the same as the better companies out there. and nuera calls every day after bill issue date to pay the bill even though you have 20 days to pay! i am cancelling their services once this month finishes, tried 3 months. not good.

I have been using Pennytalk.ca to make overseas calls for about a year now (make sure you have unlimited local calling though on your cell phone as it calls out through an 1-800 #). I have it on my phone as it is also a mobile app (no passcodes etc. after u register your #), rates aren't bad and you can print off your calling history.

When we sent our app, we had 2 skype screenshots for each month (printed in 1 photo paper per month) for our 2 years of long distance relationship.
We highlighted the date and the time of our conversation. It also shows our mini "evolution" for that 2 years duration, from change of hair cut and weight gain ;D

After our wedding, we used Viber and Skype to communicate. When his iPhone broke, I used google voice to call him, it's 15cents per minute to call him on his mobile. Google voice credits could be topped by $10, $25, $50 increments. It has really nice quality too. Con- you need to have a smart phone to use this app.

I'm wondering about the same thing. I have tried pretty much all the calling cards you can imagine. Then I used Rebtel and their rates went up overnight. I switchd to Keku and I am noticing their rates are going up because I talk less for the same amount of money. But it is still very expensive.

Hi, everyone.

Sorry in advance for bumping this old thread.

I have been using Fido since January 2016 with their Bring Your Own Phone Plan ($29) and the Value Pack ($5) added. The international rates to my wife's country (Cambodia) is 0.07 per minutes. I talk to my wife every morning and when I get back from work. Each month minutes range from 1000 to 3500 minutes. My wife has limited internet access. We sometime use Skype with 3g connection, her $5 USD gets about 120 minutes of video chat.

Is there a cheaper alternative?
Would CIC ask why I stop using Fido?

Thank you

Hey,
Check service call Rebtel. you had to download a app in your phone and you can buy unlimited subscription for moth for any country. your wife dont need internet for it. you can call on her phone any time.

I pay $2 per month for Canada unlimited calls to mobile and landline :)
