Hi guys,
I am hoping to get to Canada with an Employer-Specific Work Permit and I have a few questions I'd like to get an answer to. Any help or resources are appreciated.
Quick intro: I live in the Czech Republic and I have been working for a Canadian employer for over 8 months as an account coordinator (junior role in marketing). I am not an employee but a contractor.
I am currently figuring out how to apply for the LMIA Work Permit. I talked with the employer and I have some general understanding of what needs to be done, however, I am not really sure about some additional documents which need to be included in the application.
To further clarify, I'd like to get more info about "Employment Reference Letter", "Employment Records", "Proof that you meet the requirements of the job being offered" as well as Spousal Work Permit
My Experience of studies and employment:
09/2017 - 01/2021 - Bachelor Student of International Sales and Marketing
02/2019 - 05/2019 - 3-month Marketing internship at a Marketing Agency
09/2019 - 09/2020 - Part-time junior marketing role
06/2020 - Present - Full-time junior marketing role for a Canadian employer (I work as a contractor - I have a contract and everything but I guess I am not a typical employee)
Employment Reference Letter
"You must provide an employment reference letter from your past employers"
Employment Records
"You must provide proof of work experience for your current job and each past position listed"
Proof that you meet the requirements of the job being offered
"If your intended occupation in Canada is regulated, provide evidence that..."
Spousal Work Permit
From what I saw, I can include my spouse's application for a Spousal Work Permit on my application for LMIA Work Permit. It basically says "Do you want to submit an application for a family member".
Any answers are appreciated.
Thank you,
Sky

Employment Reference Letter
"You must provide an employment reference letter from your past employers"
- Do I provide a reference letter from the part-time marketing role? Is it worth including since it was only a part-time job?
- Can I get a reference letter from my current Canadian employer even though I am a contractor and not an employee?
- Any tips/tricks or recommendations of what should be included here?
Employment Records
"You must provide proof of work experience for your current job and each past position listed"
- Do I provide an employment record from the part-time marketing role?
- Do I need to translate the employment record to English (I worked in Denmark)?
- Can I get an employment record from my current Canadian employer even though I am a contractor and not an employee?
- Any tips/tricks or recommendations of what should be included here?
Proof that you meet the requirements of the job being offered
"If your intended occupation in Canada is regulated, provide evidence that..."
- I will do marketing and I don't think it is regulated, however, it is still marked as "required" on the Work Permit application. What do I need to include here?
- Do I include my Bachelor's Title and proof that I graduated from university? Or something else?
Spousal Work Permit
From what I saw, I can include my spouse's application for a Spousal Work Permit on my application for LMIA Work Permit. It basically says "Do you want to submit an application for a family member".
- What's the difference between applying together and my spouse applying separately?
- What's the recommended process? Do it together or separately?
- I am asking because if we apply together, I might need a "stronger case" because we'll have to persuade the immigration officer to approve 2 people at once. (Hope that makes sense)
Any answers are appreciated.
Thank you,
Sky
