I have a post grad work permit and have completed one year work in Ontario for a company
The company applied for LMIA application and we did everything according to procedure they called the employer took all the details . The employer qualifies i am making 20 dollars per hour and working as a web developer . My employer did his best to convince them . in the end they said we will fax you the result of LMIA application . Its been 3 weeks since the phone call and i have not received anything . Is it normal for them to take that much time or is there something wrong here. If its normal then can someone tell me how long do they usually take to give a decision????? I am worried sick

can take months. when they make a decision, they'll let you know

It can easily take 2-4 months for the LMIA to be processed. Way too early to start worrying yet.

months!!!!!
is there no set deadline for them to give a decision??

nowdays how long are they taking can anyone tell ?

not really, they say anywhere between 2-5 months. If you're in a trade that's in short supply in Canada they seem to be processed fairly quickly, have seen some being approved in less than a month, but that's when there is a genuine shortage of those workers. web developers aren't in short supply so you'll just have to wait it out.

There is no set deadline.

Have a look at the very long-running LMIA timeline thread in the Foreign Workers section of the forum; some people have waited a year.

i have been told the longer they make you wait the better your chances are of getting an approval ?? is this true?

No.

no, its just a long process. they need to be convinced there's no canadian that can do the job and that the employer did everything they could to hire a Canadian. Unless, like I previously said, there's a known shortage of a type of profession, the checks take time.

they called the employer 3 weeks ago and did a hour long interview and he had to convince them . all his documents are gone and so are mine they have everything. so i don't understand what they need to wait for . According to the Canadian job market report of last year there is a shortage of 15k web developers in canada at this given moment. So what else do they need to know ????

that's a question to ask them. No-one's saying it'll definitely take that long, we're saying it can. And there's nothing you or anyone else can do to speed it up. It takes as long as it takes.

Maybe they need to check more info on your employer and the hiring process to make sure everything is legit ? I know there are tons of scam or private companies founded by individual with the only purpose to sponsor people illegally before the new rules applied. On the paper, it says you can be a web dev, sysadmin, hotel manager or HR personnel, etc. but actually you don't work for them at all. All you have to do is to pay them a fee. I know a guy who got his PR like that, his fulltime job is a house painter, received cash under the table, but got a "fake" company to sponsor him as a hotel manager.

i understand what you saying
my employer send them all his financial documents
i send all my details plus we send them a detailed breakdown of the people he contacted to offer my job but nothing worked out so he wants to retain me.
keeping my fingers crossed

if in case it gets rejected is there a way around it , like i already have a one year experience in my field of study and i studied in canada .
