Hi,
I am an essential worker from India, submitted my LMIA exempt work permit application in June 2024 with IRCC.
Application processing began in Oct 2024.
Additional requested documents were submitted in Oct 2024.
Haven’t received my work permit yet.
Submitted a web form and a supporting letter from employer.

Anything else I can do to expedite the process?
Anyone else with similar kind of application who can give me an idea regarding the timelines?

So this is a company transfer. Processing from India is 28 weeks so you should have answer soon. No need to send webforms.

Is there something such as - Work permit applications for doctors/essential workers are processed earlier (in 4-8 weeks).
I have a few colleagues who have received their work permit in two months time (Applied even later than me)
In that case, is it possible to contact IRCC to expedite my application or any other solution?
Essential worker processing was a policy during Covid so depends on your NOC. Is this a post doc position. No way to expedite. Friends may have gotten lucky.

Mine will be a postdoc fellowship position.
I did not have a NOC number while applying. Wasn’t aware of it.

All LMIAs, even exempt, have NOCs. Post doc positions are not essential workers. If you are post doc that is 41200 (university lecturer).

Now that the application is already in process, no other way to expedite it right?
Any merit in taking help from an immigration lawyer?

No way to expedite. Not sure how a lawyer can help you. You are within normal processing times. Also factor in passport stamping too. What does the university say?

Would a lawyer be able to contact IRCC directly to expedite things?
My start date was pushed from Oct to Nov.
Considering I haven't received my permit yet, I will request for a December starting.
For that, I would need my permit by at least 1st week of November. I'm trying to see if anything can be done to push the process.

Also, the average estimated processing time at the time when I submitted my application was 19 weeks, and it is 28 weeks at present.
Which one should I be considering for my application? 19 or 28?

A lawyer cannot expedite. They have just as much power as you do. If you want to pay one then go ahead but your application is in the queue. Everyone wants expedited processing.

Processing is current times so 28 weeks. It changes every week, and given current India-Canada relations it may go up more.

If post doc, university would know the processing timelines as they would be familiar with the process.

Has background and eligibility been completed? Medical completed?

Current processing time (28 weeks) applies to you. Please don't waste money on a lawyer. They have no ability to expedite.

Good luck and hope you hear something soon.

Biometric and medical done in June only.
Eligibility and Background still under process.
Given India-Canada relations, background checks may be longer. This involves IRCC getting immigration info from India.

What additional documents were requested? If submitted through webform it can take up to a month for officer to open and review.

Hopefully you will hear soon but may want to talk to employer about start date. Lawyer cannot help.

My under graduate and post graduate degree certificates were requested.
Submitted in the 2nd week of September - through a web form and directly in my application - acknowledged as received.
Do you think there's any possibility of getting it at least by 2nd week of November?

What is the position? You say post doc so that would require PhD in most cases. To get by mid November, you need approval this week because of passport stamping that can take weeks.

I'm a doctor, completed post graduation in India.
Position is of a clinical and research fellow. I'll be working there as a clinician and it is a research position as well.
