So I've been doing some speaking with my employer today, i wanted to get a much more in depth idea of of the advertising for the job etc as thats the one area that freaks me out a little.

I've seen applications get refused because they didnt have the employers address to come in, in person and drop off a resume/job application.

So the sites she posted it on were (All of which are still up and online with my employers full details and job information)

Indeed
JobCal
Jobbank
Kijii

I asked what she did with the resumes in which the people were actually qualified for the job? as apose to "throwing them in the garbage"

she instead went into grave detail for reasons as to why they weren't qualified..(Or they just werent qualified or didnt have experience.

No one probably knows the answer to the question but do you think if they received your application for a job that isnt that isnt in the top skilled jobs but is out of the median wage for the province that it might look suspicious if the application is sent without or very few resumes ?

Can you imagine how much it would suck if SC turn around and say "this person was more than qualified" why didnt they get the job? instead of just throwing that resume in the garbage? honesty is the best policy could actually mess up your chances.

In my case, we have specified that candidate has to have 2+ years of experience with weighing equipment and has been working in weighing industry as a field service technician and for this specific job they had to have 2+ years of experience with Mettler Toledo product line (biggest manufacturer of weighing equipment in America).
They have received lot of applications but non of them actually have any kind of weighing experience, especially not with Mettler Toledo product line. Only one person was qualified but he is in India. So the lawyer said not to worry with number of applications because non of them qualifies for this position, and that my employer doesn't have to invite them for the interview at all because of that. They just need to track applicants and write reasons why they didn't invite them.

I see, so as long as there is a reason given as to why, they wouldn't follow up on anything?

That would suck hey, you make the job so easy to apply for that they see so many applicants qualified.

I know that through job bank out of the 15 people that applied for my job, 13 of them or something were from dubai who wanted sponsorship to come over and english wasnt even their first language.

In Calgary, it would seem there are alot of people with lack of experience. I guess that holds on in my case.

Hoping with some of the recent updates for Alberta LMIAs that our employer might get a file number soon :)

Application was sent around 15 Sept and wasn't logged in the system as of Monday and he was advised can take 20-25days so fingers crossed payment is taken soon and file number issued. Bit nervous until that stage that they may have lost the application or have issues with it.

Good luck everyone waiting on news, soon hopefully !

Hey. How did you check if it had been Inputted or not? Or did you give them a call and ask them?

I honestly don't know, my opinion is that they approach to every single applicant differently. I think it all depends on industry, wage, noc code, province and experience of the person that applies for LMIA. Based on that and the number of actual applicants with right experience for the job, they decide if there is enough of Canadian work power for that position. So in my case, there is not even close that some Canadian may fulfill that position without trainings. Also, now after advertising i saw that my company is looking for more service technicians in Calgary and Grand Prairie so i think that is my advantage. They will continue to hire non-qualified Canadians and teach them how to work. I think they write all of that in transition plan because i doubt that they will go through whole LMIA process ever again after this experience.

Hi Everyone,

my new potential employer filed for my LMIA on August 27. I do not know when they got charged but when I asked if they have been, they said yes last week (October 3). I am hoping to get approval tomorrow or next week (fingers crossed). My NOC is 0621 in Edmonton Alberta.
My NOC is also 0621, Grande Prairie, AB. High wage.

Hubby's potential employer called SC and that's what they told him. Oh for an online system - would make it so much easier. Not sure why when they receive mail/fax They can't allocate a receipt/tracking number and an status that it's been received and a status of not yet processed or allocated. Would save all this chasing up.
Such an antiquated system! Private businesses wouldn't survive if they operated like this.
Haha well guess I can't change it so just have to accept it :)

May I ask you what additional information you took with you to the border?
The main things they looked into: Proof of funds (although I wouldn't need it since I started working right away), all documents of your status in Canada (I was on IEC before, and it expired before my LMIA came in. They tried to accuse me of overstaying and being illegal in the country, even when I had a visitor extension and am from a visa-exempt country anyway, so that's BS). They ask for your phone and go trough it to find anything illegal, so either leave it at home or make sure it has nothing on it that could be used against you (I almost got in trouble for a FB message of someone asking if I could help them move a couch with my truck for $25). Also when I was 5 minutes in, they tried to send me away claiming immigration stuff is not their job, so make a printout of the CIC website with info about the border crossing that says they do immigration services to shove that under their nose.
Long story short, make sure you know exactly what your rights are and be able to support that, and think of worst-case scenario's they could refuse you on and arm against that.

Congrats!! What additional documentation did they ask for?
More detailed info about the applicants they didn't give the job to and some things/certificates on the business side.

Scenario, you were in Canada on a 2 year IEC working holiday visa. It expires but you continue to work for 2 months until your lmia comes through. You didn't change your status to visitor to technically
You have been illegal. How much hassle could the border people give you when presented with this information?

Hypothetically speaking of course
Make sure they don't find out or you're on your way back
