Regarding the documents that we have to provide to prove that we are living together, we will be able to provide a printout showing that we have a shared bank account (which we can get in English) and I am going to ask our car insurance to write a letter in English saying that we both are on it.

We are asked to send at least two documents which would be covered by the documents I just listed, but we want to make sure to send more just in case they don't find the ones we provided to be good enough. If we attach letters sent to the same address for additional proof, do we really need to get these translated? That sounds like it will cost a lot of money just for them to look at the address. Also since a tiny card costs 60 EUR to translate, I imagine translating our rental agreement would cost something like 500 Euros because there are so many words on it (that probably nobody from the CIC would even read).

And I am a little confused because when we applied for proof of citizenship for the kids everything had to be a certified copy, but in this process it only says to provide copies which only need to be certified if they need to be translated. So is it enough to send normal copies from birth certificates, passports, marriage certificate etc.?

You should read in details requirements for application. It clearly says that if document is not in English of French, it should be translated. Then in most of the cases, you should provide copy of original document and certified translation. Again, please go thru check list document, all is explained there plus whatever details on cic web page.
Hope it helps.

Thank you.
I read that but I was wondering if they really need random letters to be translated if all they want to see is that we have the same address. They don't really care about what the letter is about, I assume. My husband's note of payment and invoices in my name should be kind of obvious enough, right? As they only ask for two documents of the sets they provided, maybe we will stick with just the two that we can get in English anyways.

Yes, just stick to what you can get in English, it should be enough. We have provided only copy of our Canadian driving licences which both have the same address and bank statement on which there is my wife and my name with our address (same as driving license).
