You won't get MSP until at least a few months after you apply for PR. I believe it is getting a bit easier to do it; it used to be a fight with MSP to get coverage before PR.

He most likely won't be able to add you to his benefits as just his girlfriend; you will need legal status as a spouse, either married or common-law. Also, employer benefits generally require provincial health coverage first. If you don't have provincial coverage and his employer says they can add you to the plan, get confirmation from the actual insurance underwriters. If it turns out that the insurer's fine print required provincial coverage and they find out you didn't have it, you would have to pay back any claims you made.
Well yea, of course we'd get married first! but I'm unsure about what proof we can put other than insurance

If you are planning to get married, then I would hold back submitting your application until you are married. It changes the burdon of proof, and by applying inland, you can apply for an Open Work Permit (OWP). You just include that with the PR application package. It's an extra $255 (on top of the $1040 for the PR application). This will permit you to remain in Canada while they process your application.
If I can please ask you some advise regarding the OWP - as I understand you pay the $100 extension fee and $155 OWP holder fee, but I am not sure if the holder fee also has a form that needs completion? Or is it just the one form that you complete for OWP?

Also, perhaps if you could give your input on my situation... my visitor visa is expiring in July,we are planning on submitting our Inland Spousal Sponsorship App with OWP by end of May, should I go ahead and extend my visitor visa as well or will the implied status of applying for OWP be enough? (I am on my 1st extension and married since December.)
