Hello,

My question might be a little far fetched but I am just trying to get some information at this point. I am right now living in Detroit on a dependent visa (O3), which I moved to after missing the lottery this year for H1B. Now that I have not many options left till next year October to work in USA (If I find a job again and IF I get through a possible lottery next year, which is tough). I was wondering how hard it is to find work in Windsor in my field (Chemical engineering/Pharma/Materials) and what the process would be to travel between the two cities (work permit etc). There are some jobs but not many and I do need to find a job first. But is this doable considering my situation (Visa/Work permit and border control vise)? Any suggestions and information is helpful.

It's generally difficult to find an employer anywhere in Canada as a foreign worker. In order to hire you, the employer first needs to obtain an LMIA - which involves first advertising the job for at least a month to prove no Canadian could be found for the role. Then the employer has to pay a $1,000 fee and submit the LMIA application for processing. Processing can take 2-4 months - and there's no guarantee of approval at the end. If the LMIA is approved, you can then apply for a work permit. However due to the expense, effort and time it takes - it's generally very difficult to find an employer.

As for living in the US and commuting to Canada each day - I don't know if this will be doable or not - someone else will have to comment on that.

Yeah. I read about LMIA. Well looks like it's not any easier. I'll just keep applying and see if I get lucky! Thanks for the info.
