Hello,

I am a nursing student in Portugal, and everyday I think there is no other option besides leaving my country. Mainly because nursing in Portugal is a very low paid job, and there are too many nurses.

I did some research and found some sites that said that the average nursing income is 70k-80k in Canada. Is that correct? Just so you guys can see what I mean, an average nurse in Portugal makes 18k Canadian dollars per year. And by what I saw on my research, the living costs are about the same, maybe cheaper in Canada!

I would like to know what are the major things that I should know if I really wanna take this big step. What cities should be the best, since I am a much better english speaker then a french one. I would also prefer a town with not very extreme winters. I would eventually like to own a nice house, with a little bit of green, and in a peaceful place, not very far away from a hospital/town center.

Well putting it more simply, which cities are the best for:

1- Owning a house, and make a living.

2- Don't own a house, and just save money for making a living in the future.

Keep in mind, my girlfriend is the one who gave me this idea, since she loves Canada, and she will also be a nurse next year, so she would also come.

And another thing. In the US some nurses from portugal need to make an exam in order to get the "registered nurse" title. Is there anything similar in Canada?

Lastly, I have an aunt who lives in Canada, I didn't want to bother her with all the questions I have, since she is retired already, but, can she be an advantage for helping me out if we (me and my gf) decide to try this?

Thank you! :D

your aunty could be of help to you if you are considering migrating to the province she is

I think that after you think about "Which city is best for you to get the Canadian license of nursing?", you get an answer of "Which city is best for you to live?" .

In order to work in Canada as nurse, you must have a license issued by each province of Canada. You have to pass the exam (not only an English exam) in Canada. Any license/certificate issued by foreign countries isn't valid but you probably need it in order to apply.
If you plan to live in BC or AB, you also must have a training in nursing at least 250 hours in Canadian Hospital. Other province might have some other rules.

I think CIC website might help you.

Good luck
