Hello, I (Canadian citizen from Owen Sound, Ontario) have just been accepted as my partner, Karl Watson's sponsor for our family class common law application for his permanent residency for Canada. Karl is a UK citizen and therefore we have been told the application has been sent to the London, UK office for processing as we have applied from outside of Canada (currently living in the Uk). We will be leaving the UK in a months time as my working visa will expire and doing 3 months of travel prior to going home (to Owen Sound, Canada) for Christmas.
We are looking for advice regarding Karl's ability to stay in Canada after Christmas until our visa has been accepted as this is what we would like as so not to have to live apart. Is there a temporary working visa he would be able to get? Or if he entered on a visitor visa would he be able to extend this once close to expiry if we have not yet heard regarding his PR application? Could you please let me know if you are able to assist us with advice on this matter.
Thank you!!!

Guys, my wife is coming to Canada in 2 months to wait for her PR application. Her application was filed back in May 2015 and is currently in process at the LVO. My question is since her PR application is being processed in the London Visa Office, if the LVO requests her passport for her Visa does she need to return back to the UK and mail her passport? If so that would mean that she would have to stay for a few months in the UK? :(

She's a UK citizen? I believe it is rare for a non-visa country applicant to get a passport request, they might ask for photocopies of all the pages of her passport at most.

Yes she is a UK citizen. I hope they only ask for photocopies. Is she able to update her mailing address as well? I logged online on ecas and i don't see the option to update her address.

Try logging in with her information and use your application number. There should be a button under the address allowing you to change it.

You are right!! If i logged on with her information, i can see her mailing address. I had to go under My Application-->Change address. then im able to change her mailing address.
Thanks again.

Might be a silly question but with the address change - if you apply Outland and change your address to Canada - this is ok?! Also if we are travelling for 3 months prior to going back to Canada to await being accepted I would guess the best idea would be to change our address to my parents where we will be living in Canada right?

Yep, totally okay. It's a mailing address, not a residential address.

Yes he can come to Canada and stay here as a visitor and extend his visitor status, by explaining that you are awaiting for PR. I did the same even before i submit the PR visa. I actually just posted it 5 min ago. :) So excited! He will not be able to work here but he can definitely stay as a visitor. It's been a year I'm here as a visitor. When I asked for an extension the 1st time I told them we wanted to obtain the common law status with my partner so we can apply for sponsorship. They gave me a 6 months extension and then I reapply saying now we are reaching common law status and that we are applying for sponsorship and that I want to be here with my partner during the process and that we would apply outland. The next day I got an extension until June 2016. :) And today I submitted the application :))) Good luck :)
