Living in Canada and deciding where to work?

I am Canadian, my husband is American. We are living in the USA until his visa comes in, then moving to Ontario. He is 58 years old, and will retire in 4 to 9 years.
He works from home as a medical coder for a company in western USA.
He can’t get them to budge, as far as him continuing to work from home in Canada. But.... he can live in Canada and work in the USA.
He has two choices.... he can either cross the border twice everyday to work, or find a job in Canada.
We understand he has to file two tax returnes, and will probably be taxed more because of that.
But, are there any advantages or disadvantages as far as.... living and working in Canada and filing two tax forms, versus living in Canada and working in the USA and filing two tax forms?
And.....Are there problems crossing the border back and forth, as long as he has a Canadian PR card? He’s going to try to get a nexus card also.
Thank you

Either way he will not qualify for CPP.
That’s not really a factor that we are worried about. I will qualify for CPP, and if I am married and my spouse doesn’t receive any, I will get more.
But... I also looked it up. if he’s in Canada more than 10 years before he apples, he will get a portion of cpp. That means at 68, he can apply.

Working in Canada and paying in to his retirement will also pay money out when he retires. His American social security is already set in place, and the amount won’t go up. So that could be an advantage.

I was just looking to see if others had similar situations.

Lots of people work in the US but live in Canada. Given his age and the fact that his profession doesn't really exist in Canada he should probably continue to work in the US. If he is in the US 5 days a week working and driving he should maintain his US health insurance especially given his age.

I 100% agree to keep him working in US.
Could you clarify health insurance part? After landing in 3 months he will get OHIP. Why to maintain costly US health insurance ?

If he is a PR in Ontario he will qualify for OHIP. If he works in the US he will spend 50ish hours a week in the US and spend 5 days a week driving the US. That is a lot of time to get sick or get in a car accident. Also not sure whether you have extended benefits.

"His American social security is already set in place, and the amount won’t go up." - not sure about that, the longer you work and delay start SS benefits the more you get. Also in general US SS is much more than Canadian.

That’s what I was wondering also. He pays over $600 a month for US health care, which barely covers 80% and has a huge yearly deductible. I’m wondering if travel insurance outside of Canada is cheaper.

I’m looking up travel insurance, and see how much that costs.

He pays $600 a month right now for health coverage. We don’t use it. And...The deductible is too high. OHIP may or may not cover certain amounts in the US, I’m not counting on that. But I think I will look into other insurance. His car right now covers accidents.
