We are submitting Outland for spousal PR from California.

Our local police department does Live Scan prints AND submits them digitally (and they have no ability to print the prints out) to the FBI. Will this work to submit the FBI clearance form?

If so - the Request for Police Certificate form we got from CIC website, do we just not submit that then?

If your police department digitally sends your fingerprints, did they say that you still needed to mail an Identity Summary Request to the CJIS division of the FBI? Or did they digitally send your request along with the fingerprints?

Either way, you should receive your FBI Background Check in the mail and will then attach that to your application.

According to the FBI website, the prints need to be placed onto the FD-258 card:
http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/identity-history-summary-checks/submitting-an-identity-history-summary-request-to-the-fbi

Step 2: Obtain a set of your fingerprints.

Provide the original fingerprint card. Previously processed cards or copies will not be accepted.
Your name and date of birth must be provided on the fingerprint card. Fingerprints should be placed on a standard fingerprint form (FD-258) commonly used for applicant or law enforcement purposes. The FBI will accept FD-258 fingerprint cards on standard white paper stock.
Include rolled impressions of all 10 fingerprints and impressions of all 10 fingerprints taken simultaneously (these are sometimes referred to as plain or flat impressions).
If possible, have your fingerprints taken by a fingerprinting technician. This service may be available at a law enforcement agency.
Fingerprints taken with ink or via live scan are acceptable.
To ensure the most legible prints possible, refer to the Recording Legible Fingerprints brochure. If fingerprints are not legible, the fingerprint card will be rejected. This could cause delays in processing and could also result in additional fees.

Just fyi Ponga - when I called the FBI August 2014, they cited the fact that they had switched over to Digitally Accepted Fingerprints as the reason for the new, long wait times. Thank you for pointing this out, though. I would perhaps call CJIS and verify whether or not they accept digitally sent fingerprints, and mention that their website has not been updated if so. It could also be that Ponga is right and they don't accept digital fingerprints yet. I would call and find out.

Good advice. A simple phone call to CJIS can certainly clarify this issue.

I do know that digital prints from outside of the U.S. are not accepted, since they cannot be transmitted across the border.
