Hello,

My wife is a live-in-caregiver with a valid work permit until 2017. Her entry visa has expired and she wants a new one. Is the form IMM 5257 the right one to fill out? She told me that in the section #3 Visa Requested to leave blank and when printed put "re-entry visa," but the form does not let me do that. It says either visitor visa or transit, and leaving blank un-does the validation.

Are we even on the right track? I'm extremely confused.

Thank you for your help.

Peter

She needs to get a visitor visa.

I think she needs to apply for a new temporary resident visa within Canada.

Apply for a new temporary resident visa from within Canada
If you are a temporary resident in Canada with valid status (that is, you have a valid study permit or work permit), you can apply for a new temporary resident visa to return to Canada before you leave.

You can apply in Canada if:

you are a legally admitted
student or
foreign worker
in Canada with a Canadian residential address,
your current temporary resident status is still valid, and your existing visa counterfoil is expired or was valid for only one entry, and
you need a new temporary resident visa to return to Canada in the near future.
