Is great that you are trying to make a diference. Since i became a LC i have noticed that there are a lots of abuses going on for me and many of the girls.
Is there a canadian organization that helps LC? if so i would like to join and help girls and let them know they are not alone!
I try to fight for me everyday, saying NO when i want to, not doing all they ask, no working during my breaks, etc. We all should do this and not let this people do whatever they want with us.
Let's say NO TO THIS MODERN SLAVERY!!
THUMBS UP!!
I still say, one person's strength is little , one person's voice is weak , this program is for all the live-in caregivers , I just wonder why there are so few people would like to stand up . indeed , there are some employers are very nice to their nannies , but I wonder how many nannies enjoy their lives when waiting in the long processing time line , especially when they have to leave their little ones behind far away?
If everyone hope to let others do and self wait for the result , this is not right and never gonna work . just like the election , needs the quantity. this is all the live-in caregivers 's sentiment.
The end of 2009, 150 nannies or so talked to Minister Kenney and the rules changed , not necessary for us even though , it worked ! Now let's speak out for ourselves again , tell out what we exactly need , we work for our rights. please , girls !

yeah, we are all waiting for the first stage of approval, our open work permit but they are holding it tight for the processing. So, depressing..but what can we do? just wait patiently for the decision of our papers. :(

Hi ying888,
let's join our effort. If Migrante agree to help us then we will need to get in touch with the person in charge, not just on provincial level. We need to go federal. We need to find out who deals with Public Relations and Media, I guess. We can take it from there and see how we can get our message across.

helloy guys i forgot that i emailed the letter to stephen harper and his secretary replied that he acknowledged that they have received the email. the thought of the letter is that they are concern with our situation, but i think right now they cannot do anything about it especially it is election, he sent the letter to Jason Kenney personally, i hope that helps because it has been from Mr Harper's office that emailed them, hoping for a good result

Im in BC too girls. Even i havent apply for my OWP because i still have 10 months to go, i would like to do something because waiting one more year is not fair!!!
I wouldnt mind to wait that long for PR but to get OWP in a max of 4 months it would be fair enough for us.
Maybe we should create a BC group and then start from there?

The live-in caregiver program is necessary to change , I haven't completed my program yet but I did want to do some actions since last year. as I had experience with bad employer and know how the government think of our live-in caregivers. It's not fair, but long time processing time makes our situation worse, it's a two year program , who knows how many years we have to wait when we submit our applications? How many years we have to be a live-in caregiver ?
Yes , we shoud do something to protact ourselves.

@ rosellyalung- nice job! If the voices were heard that made the implementation of April 2010 changes, there's a possibility for this one. It's just really blows my mind how can the papers stuck on march and longer processing time.

@ All the people in BC. I am in BC too. and willing to do anything to make this work.
I was talking to my fiance, he suggests to send all our complains to CTV, if the media shows on TV our situation they are going to start doing something. What about if we open a FB with a CAREGIVERS IN CANADA so we can invite more CG to join and get bigger.
any suggestions?

I am thinking if we should go talk to the same media and the same organization just like roseyalung mentioned of so that we can make a big number of the group and our voice can get stronger.

also we need to talk about some details , what we exactly hope to change about the rules , like
1. requiring employers to pay check and the pay stubs more rigorous , we need everyone who had bad experience tells the stories that shows it exactly needs to amend. like me , refused to be paid in check , and no overtime pay , didn't get income tax deducted properly,

2. if any income tax deduction problems , that's not live-in caregivrs' fault, when it happens , CRA should contact employers.

3. lots of nannies prefer to endure the bad employers because the nannies have to wait untill the new work permit comes , some months is hard to live-in caregivers , that causes abusing too.

4. the most important , this is a two year program , after two years we should get our permanent status automatically , because the long processing time is unreasonable , every nanny's processing time is different , it's not fair. this causes abuse too.
long depressive working without their family here can destroy live-in caregives' health , not fair for the nannies' families especially the children, a increase Canadian medical finance as well....

as much as we can speak out our stories that shows it exactly needs to change.

any other ideas please replenish...

Im a bit worry about the paycheck and stuff because it has been mention in the changes last 2010. http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/workplaceskills/foreign_workers/communications/lcpnewchanges.shtml "It is expected that employers will ensure that complete and accurate records of work performed, wages paid, and other human resource records are maintained concerning their employment of a foreign national under the Live-in Caregiver Program."
With taxes, caregivers can file it even no T4. The employer will be audited and will fine. But the long processing time, it's disturbing.. 4-6 months for owp is enough. And they have to do something about "implied status". Most gov't agencies don't know that it exist and really a status.
