Hi guys,

I've been looking online through the huge amount of information on the live-in caregiver program. There's so much of it, that it's actually (for me at least!) completely unclear about the process of going from having found a person to employ, to filling in the various applications, fulfilling the advertising requirements etc, and finally getting the work permit processed.

Basically, we don't really know where to begin with applying for a caregiver visa. Our person has the relevant experience needed to be eligible, a reference from her employer confirming this, and the necessary linguistic ability. Now, what is next? How do we go about showing we've looked for a Canadian Citizen/PR for the position, and from there getting an LMO, and after that getting a visa processed? It's all seriously confusing! Any help or a link to a simplified guide would be great :D

Thanks!

hi, a canadian employer must be eligible to hire you as a live in caregiver..copy and paste that link below on how a canadian employer can hire a foreign worker ..

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/hire/caregiver.asp

then at the same time check the link below on how u will go through the LCP application

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/caregiver/index.asp

--if you know someone from canada who can assist you from looking an employer who is willing to go through the process of hiring you, that would be great...the whole process requires patience so be prepared for it...good luck

Sounded to me like Ben is actually trying to employ someone as a caregiver and does not know where to start.
I would highly suggest you get a representative regarding this matter as most of the people here are applicants and all most likely does not have a hand at the LMO process.

as mentioned by bitoyzz, you may want to start here:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/hire/caregiver.asp

Thanks for the advice! What you guys have provided seems to answer most of my questions! It's just one big can of worms of information it seems!

If I'm correct, I think I understand the process as:

- Employer applies for an LMO (with name of prospective employee, payment, demonstrate 14 days of advertising and no ideal candidate within Canada, anything else?)

- Prospective Employee then applies for work permit (with supporting documents: reference proving experience in the field, photos etc), that is processed by the visa office in question (applicant is Armenian but resides in Lebanon - I'd assume that they'd apply to the Moscow CIC office as there isn't one in Armenia? Or can they apply to Beirut?)

- If application is successful, applicant can then travel to Canada. I guess providing the reference confirming eligibility is accepted, then things should be fine?

Is there any language exam needed at this point before coming to Canada? Anything else I've missed :)

Thanks :)

Assuming that all goes well for the part of the employer and a positive LMO is given, then the applicant can submit the application online which is recommended for work visas as it is faster.
The applicant can try the online process and see if he/she is eligible to do it online:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/ctc-vac/getting-started.asp
Once eligible, a list of document checklist will be listed and all that is required is access to a scanner.
