Linking online account to application for older application sent in June

Hi,

I've been reading about the new application form. We've already submitted our form and Canada immigration has been in contact with us via email requesting additional documents, etc.

But I've noticed today that there was a new app as well as an online account which they use to keep in contact with you. We tried registering for this and linking the account but when they did the search they couldn't find it in the system.

Is this new online account only for brand new applications after the announcement or is it for older ones as well?

I am pretty sure you are talking about the 'MyCIC' facility. This works for 'old' applications as well as new ones. My app was received in CIC Mississauga in June 2016 and I managed to get access.

Be warned, it is a veritable art form to arrive at a form of data combinations that MyCIC will accept! It took me 22 attempts! Read all about it and peoples experiences and what worked for them here:

Thanks for the link! I tried again using the "application number and family name" that was suggested in the post, and that worked for the linking the app.

Yes, that is the combo that finally worked for me. I think the 'trick' it to provide as little information as the validations will let you get away with!!
