LIMA approved . I am 63 yrs old . work permit rejected as no adequate skills to perform the job . job applied - cook
Was that the only reason?

So what did you show that you could do the job? Education? Certification? References? Is the employer someone you know? IELTS/TEF?

Your age may play a factor to.

What is your professional background / work experience? Do you have work experience as a cook? Did you provide evidence of your related work experience? Depending on your country of origin, did you provide evidence of your language abilities (either English or French)?

I would recommend ordering GCMS notes to see the detailed reasons behind the refusal to determine if it makes sense to reapply.

what are my chances if I reapply with more reference ?
It's hard to say with the information you've provided so far and without knowing what your GCMS notes say.

No one can tell you chances. Order GCMS notes and reapply if you can address reasons for refusal. Maybe complete IELTS and ECA for education. Get more reference letters with proof of job responsibilities. Is the employer a family member?

These are the education requirements for a cook:

  • Employment requirements
    • Completion of secondary school is usually required.
    • Completion of a three-year apprenticeship program for cooks
      or
completion of college or other program in cooking or food safety
      or
several years of commercial cooking experience may be required.
    • Trade certification is available, but voluntary, in all provinces and territories.
    • Red Seal endorsement is also available to qualified cooks upon successful completion of the interprovincial Red Seal examination.
So if you don’t have education as a cook then that may be a reason noted in GCMS.

is my age a major factor here ?
Age and being that a family member is hiring you may be factors. IRCC always scrutinizes the hiring of family members, as it is hard to prove that the only person skilled to do the job is a family member. You are 63 when some Canadians are retiring. What is your long term plan?
