We (TVOntario) want to know how life in Canada is going for new immigrants. What's it like to come to Canada? What are the biggest challenges? Is it passing through the scrutiny required to immigrate? Is it getting used to a new culture? And, once you've gone through it, is it worth the effort?

We interviewed a group off highly skilled immigrants about their opinions on Canada. Now, with our Immigrantion policy under review, we want to hear from you. You can watch their videos and add your comments and opinions. We really want to hear what you have to say:

Thanks for the link, David. I've signed up, but I'm finding the navigation on your site a bit cumbersome. I want to read and possibly participate in the discussion regarding your clip on Finding Work. Does each video have it's own discussion, or is there just a general discussion board?

Many people from different immigration forums have commented on our "Voices of New Canadians" video series. We have collected a sample of the comments and posted them to a blog on our website.

It is our hope to show our viewers the forums that are actively engaged in discussing immigration issues in Canada. The Agenda with Steve Paikin is produced by TVOntario, Ontario's educational broadcaster. All content is produced as a public service, and is commercial free.

I saw the program on TVO. It was a very informative discussion, but I thought the host was a little unfair to one of the guests accusing her multiple times of not answering his question about the effects of raising the minimum wage on the availability of jobs.

David_TVO,

Gentleman,

I guess you still need further information/explanation? I wish your effort could do something and open the eye of the slept Canadian (bad)managers or who pretend to be sleeping.

You can find one here....how life in Canada means for a person from Europe.

it's worth reading it. but I'd be careful as Charlotte's opinions do not reflect the mindset of all europeans and appears sometimes a little bit one-sided...

Yes, I have read Charlotte's story. It is very unfortunate when someone experiences that much dissatisfaction with a life choice. And even more disheartening, when a dream of a starting a new life in a different country turns out to be, or what appears to be, a nightmare.I hope Charlotte finds a better life when she returns home or to a different county.

Some of the points she raised around employment were certainly discussed during our week long special on Immigration issues in Canada. The Immigration and Refugee act is being revised and hopefully some of the changes will make it easier for skilled workers. The Agenda will be revisiting the topic of Immigration very soon.

To be fair, we must remember, despite some of the important issues that Charlotte story highlights, that many New Canadians have found a better and more rewarding life in Canada.

From my POV it's not the Immigration and Refugee act that causes the main problems: It's the economy; the professional and regulatory structure incl. unions, associations, etc.; an underlying conservative attitude, lack of entrepreneurial spirit and international spread (e.g. explore international markets). At the same time, immigrants come to canada unprepared and with wrong expectations.
So why do you think changing the Immigration and Refugee act will make it easier for skilled workers?

Changing the act will "make it easier" for some people to get in to Canada, but it will make it more difficult for others.
I agree with you, it wont change the overall problems. And yes, immigrants need to wake up to the reality in Canada.
