hi

okay so for letters of support by friends/family members (testifying to the authenticity of the relationship) and also letters of financial support from people willing to help us get settled in Canada, would it be better to have them either:

a) hand written and signed by hand
b) typed and signed by hand
or
c) typed and emailed

let me know soon, i appreciate it

Are you applying inland or outland, and if outland what country?
Some situations require you to have 2 certified/notarized letters of support.

If there is no specific requirement, then any way is fine as there are no rules. In our case, we included 1 family letter and it was typed and then signed by hand. IMO signing by hand was important since it shows the person really wrote the letter and wasn't just done by sponsor/applicant.

Hi Solesilence,

I attended a study in Canada forum about two weeks ago and it was facilitated by CIC VO's Nairobi. They seemed to be insistent on submission of typed documents signed by the relevant person.

Under which category are you applying? I am asking because you talk about financial support from "people" as if there are many people doing it. You probably want to be more specific on who the main sponsor is. That was one of the other things the VO's seemed to question. They were talking about it from a sponsors to study in Canada but it may also apply in your case. If you have many sponsors include a very detailed document showing how each person comes in.

I hope that helps. Submission of all the right things may luckily be equal to a very speedy processing.
All the very best to you!!!

I'd say your better off with a typed up letter that is signed by the person who wrote it. Just because sometimes people don't have the most eligible handwriting, and it'll just be easier for the VO to read something typed up instead of handwritten.

thanks everyone that was really helpful.

Im in Pakistan and my wife (and sponsor) is a Canadian citizen. she lived with me for 2 months then came back to canada this december. we're applying now and i just need to mail her the final documents.

okay, so typed with hand signed is the way to go. :D

All the best. Keep fingers crossed.

Are letters of support only required for applicants from certain countries or for Outland? I wasn't aware of these letters when applying Inland in Canada.

They are mandatory for certain outland applications, depending on your country.

Most people put one or a couple in the application anyways (outland or inland), just as added proof of relationship.
