Hey everyone,

We're almost done with our inland PR application through common-law relationship. I've searched for these questions but only found forums posts from 5-10 years ago, and not exactly the same situation as us.

One of the last parts of the application is the letters from friends and family. We have a signed/dated letter from:
- Principal Applicants parents (joint)
- Principal Applicants brother
- Sponsors mother and step-father (joint)
- Sponsors father and step-mother (separate but on same doc)
- Sponsors Uncle and Aunt (joint)
- Sponsors Nan and Grandpa (joint)

We've asked friends to complete a letter too, but they don't seem to be prioritising it as much as we'd like. Is it imperative we have a mix of friends/family, or is only family fine?

Do these letters need to be notarised?

Do we need the original copies?

Having to request original, notarised copies would delay our application considerably. Especially letters coming from the UK, with Christmas round the corner. If this isn't imperative, we'll just submit the copies.

Thanks in advance!

Write a starting letter for your friends and ask them to complete it or sign it.
I'd thought about this, but it doesn't seem a very legit way of doing it. Especially if there's anything that they pick up on as being too similar, and then dismiss all the letters as they are presumed fraudulent. I'm sure a lot of people have done this in the past, but we wanted all our documents to be legit.

Do you know the answers to the other questions I asked?

Forget about the friend letter. Only a couple letters are needed and you are already have more than enough.

If they needed to be notarized, that would be stated.

They don't need to be original. They can scan and email the letters to you.

I do not believe the checklist requires them to be notarised. The guide also does not specify if they must be originals. When discussing form signatures, the guide says photocopies are acceptable but that originals may be requested. Perhaps that's a way to start.
