Letter of employment help

Hello all,

I am a bit confused as to what I should submit for my employment letters in the last 3 years. I understand that I need to reference my current position and the one that I did all of my 12 months of full time employment (post graduate work permit) through the use of a NOC code. I have that covered, but what about my other jobs such as a customer rep or a game tester (QA)? Do those have to be written up in a way that a NOC code is used and all the duties noted are ones that are reflected according to the NOC duties? Do i only have to use a NOC code for the job that i received all of my full time work, or for the other small part-time jobs that got me by throughout the 2 years of my college schooling?

Thank you for your future replies

You only need letters to proof experience in NOC 0,A or B related positions, to proof that you do have the required experience to be eligible for CEC.
Just have your employer write you the letter/s in the format CIC requests on their website and you should be fine.

Thanks for the reply Cheery.

So to clarify, I only need to provide a letter of employment from the NOC 0,A or B related positions, to proof that I do have the required experience to be eligible for CIC?

So in other words, only 1 letter of employment? Forget about the other positions that are not in NOC 0, A or B? Even though the other 3 part-time positions were work experience that I have gained in the last 3 years during and after my schooling? I am still unclear. I just want to make sure that I provide all the necessary documents to CIC.

Thank you.

u need letters from past and previous employers for the last 3 years and it doesn't matter which Noc code.
yes, NOC A, O or B qualifies u but wont stop u from getting letters from other jobs that didnt fall in those category. U don't need to mention NOC codes other than A, O or B when ur listing ur work experiences. if u fail to provide a letter, u have to provide a written explanation of why u didn't include such letter. Remember, letters must include all the necessary information from the checklist..Good luck

Copied from Question 8 under Schedule 8 from the CEC application guide:

Write details of your work experience in Canada.

List your occupations within the 3 years preceding the date your application is made starting with your current occupation.

Give details for each occupation of the appropriate National Occupational Classification code (NOC) including:

the name of your employer(s)
a description of your main duties, and
the number of hours you worked per week

List only occupations that fall in Skill Type 0 or Skill Levels A or B of the NOC.

From that, I assume that only the jobs that qualify should be listed -- if not, don't list them.

What if your employment history included working through a temp agency? That doesn't count right? I remember seeing that somewhere on the gov website but now I can't find it...

I remember reading somewhere that u have to get letters from all employments regardless and list only those ones that qualifies

U are beginning to scare me by saying that Employment agency doesn't count. I works as a registered practical nurse and all my experiences were gained through agency since i couldn't get direct employment. My work permit states to work for any employer so i doubt if there is an exception. I have my t4s and NOAs through employment agency including my nursing license.
I also remember asking senior members in this forum whether agency employment counts and one of them said that agency employments counts among the experience. My application will be mailed out this week and now u made me worried.

Incorrect. You don't even list your experience on the Schedule 8 for the NOC codes that don't meet the criteria. As such, you don't have to supply letters of reference or employment support for those jobs.

They aren't used in any criteria to assess your eligibility.

i know they are not used to assess eligibiltity but i think the person still need to get letters and list only jobs that qualifies. We better wait for senior members to handle this situation to avoid confusion. Remember that FSW need letters for the past 10years..

The checklist says, "up-to-date letters of reference from your past and current employers for the past 3 years." That includes skilled and unskilled jobs for the past 3 years.

But for Schedule 8, you only list jobs that fall under NOC O, A or B.

what about jobs done under the Off campus work permit? Do we have to provide letters for that too?

If the jobs are within the last 3 years, then yes you provide letters regardless of the type of work permit.

I don't necessarily agree as the title in the document request list item for the reference letters says "Work Experience in Canada", and given the fact that you are only assessed on qualifying criteria, there would be no need for the officers to look at reference letters that have no bearing on the application. In addition, the CEC is a pretty lean class and they have seem to taken steps to reduce the documentation load compared to other classes.

That said, there is no harm in being cautious and submitting more than needed (worst case, you annoy the officer a little).
