Hi All,

Not sure whether anyone had this situation.

I received a letter from CRA that I (My wife as she is receiving Child tax benefits) will need to provide letters from landlord, from school for the attendance record for my kids as a part of random audits for CTB beneficiaries. If we fail to provide proofs, CRA stating that it may stop CTB payments.

we are living as PR holders for 2 years, but my wife and kids went back to India for 8 months for some family functions and other issues.

Now I can get the letters they have stayed with me and from schools. For that 8 months spent at India, I'm going to tell them that they were not here at Canada.

Does anyone had this situation before? CRA will ask us to pay the amounts back for those 8 months or whole 2 years?

Can anyone guide please?

Thanks in advance.

Your wife should inform CRA to stop CTB payments that the child would not be in Canada before they left the country. I suppose she will need to retrun the 8 months CTB.

Thank you for the response. We have planned to return in 2 months, even we didn't know that we will need to inform CRA. But due to some situation, they didn't return soon.

Thanks again.

You will have to repay the amounts, and will likely be subject to penalties and interest.

Oh.. ok. :(

do you know If they will receive my response this month end, how long they will take to decide the payment amount or will inform me about the details?

Is there any option will they provide to pay installments?

Thank you.

There's no telling with the CRA on matters like timing. you can call them to get more information on your case. Typically, the CRA is pretty flexible on installments if you can't pay the amount due.

I also received the same letter from CRA, but I am living in Canada with my kids. I am gathering all the required documents from School and my doctor and hopefully will submit them in next week. I don't think so there will be any issue but let's see.

Hi,

do you know whether they will accept our lease agreement and rent receipts? or Do I need to get separate letter from the landlord?
The letter mentioned as "Lease agreements and/or letters from family members not acceptable."

Thank you.

Yes they will accept the lease agreements.

"Lease agreements and/or letters from family members not acceptable." it means you can't sign the lease or letter with your relatives in Canada.

Any update on this..hiw much did you pay and what CRA replied after your situation?

I think CTB doesn't accrue interest. I read it from somewhere here.

Hi
Will CRA accept Residential Tenancy Agreement or I have to take any other letter from the landlord?
CRA has written that Rental agreements will not be accepted.
Thanks
Your early reply will be very helpful for me.
