Hello,

Having observed this forum for a while, I formed an account to see if my situation could be helped. The Flag-pooling thing really intrigues me because I do not want to have to wait 100 days to get my PGWP. I have NOT yet applied for my PGWP. So here is a break down of my situation.

Letter from School confirming completion of degree ----- Should receive early next week
Current study permit ------- Valid until January 2016
US Visa ------- Valid Until 2017
Current city --------- St Johns NL

I want to do the flag-pooling thing as soon as I get my letter of completion of studies. But I have a bit of a financial issue. Lots of ppl on here are going to Niagra Falls to get their PGWP via flag-pooling but given I am based in St Johns NL, travelling to Ontario might be currently to expensive. The only other possible option is going to St Pierre et Miquelon direct from St Johns airport. Or I could travel to Fortune NL and take a ferry into St Pierre et Miquelon. But I am not sure if I need a a visa to travel there.

So the question is, do I need a visa to travel St Pierre et Miquelon and come back within a day or 2?? Or could I just travel there with a Valid Canadian Study Permit?? That way when I am coming back in to Canada , I could easily apply for my PGWP at the CBSA border either at the airport or ferry terminal (depending on which method I use)

Replies will be very much appreciated

Hi jubear,

I just received an email saying "Your application has been updated". This is different from the previous "no updates" emails they've been sending. Any idea what this means? I logged in to MyCIC but nothing looks different in there.
its just email of status updated.
means your status is open.
its kinda automatic mail.

CIC
Last update as of today was July 17, 2015
CIC is currently processing applications submitted on April 8, 2015
Official processing time as of today is 100 days for WP.
**New TRV (Inland) processing time for online applicants is 12 days.

PLEASE NOTE:
1. Any PGWP applicants who visit this amazing forum and don't have their timeline profiles recorded on here should endeavour to provide their details truthfully. It helps everyone to keep track of things.

2. If you want to be sure of your day counts please visit this site at http://www.timeanddate.com/date/duration.html. Be sure to select “include end date in calculation.”

3. The above individual timelines have been sorted according to date of application.

4. If for whatever reason you email or call CIC, please feel free to share your findings in the forum.

5. If you receive your PGWP, please remember to visit the forum and update us. Also, make sure that you renew your SIN by visiting your nearest Service Canada office here: http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/cgi-bin/sc-srch.cgi?app=hme&ln=eng

** New TRV for those who want to travel after receiving their PGWP. Processing fee is $100 (the required docs for application include; passport copy, face/head photograph, IMM5257E form, and a copy of your PGWP). Please be aware that your PGWP doesn't give you the right to return to Canada. You need a new TRV that you apply for as a worker NOT as a student.

Congratulations to Pama and other members that have received their PGWP. Good luck on your job search.

Keep the faith and stay positive. It is a waiting game :)

Cheers!

Hi everyone,

I will really appreciate your thoughts if you will share them with me.
My WP is going to expire in the end of this month. If I will go with my wife's approval letter of PGWP (while waiting for actual PGWP in the mail) to the flagpole, will an officer at the border accept my application for open work permit?

Thank you in advance!

Flagpoling is actually risky. cuz there r some pitfalls when really do it.I wouldn't suggest you do it at the first place. my lawyer also said it is the last resort. cuz some people do flagpoling be rejected, even being rejected to enter for some reason. some people get less than 3years. and once you got pgwp less than 3years, u are not able to apply online, cuz you could only apply for pgwp for once in your life. it most likely depends on your luck
you could also call CIC, they wont recommend you do that, maybe it is because of the administrative burden, but CBSA do possibly reject applicants. it is also because CBSA just share the CIC's responsibility to deliver this service, they r not quite familiar with the procedure and may made mistake in your pgwp and once the mistake happens , again it will all depends on your luck whether you can get it fixed.

so it is all your choice to risk it or not .

for i know, most people did flagpoling because they already wait for a long time and need the pgwp in a rush for employer. otherwise they wont risk that...

Hey guys,

I was able to get the employment location on my pgwp changed at the rainbow bridge border without crossing the bridge again. All I did was telling the officer that the company wouldn't hire me due to the error on the wp. I really appreciate the help that I have received from the forum and if anyone has any questions regarding the process feel free to message me.

Currently I am working on my trv online application and it seems that all they are asking is the IMM 5257 form, work permit, passport scan and a photo. I remember they used to ask for bank statement but it is not mentioned this time. It would be really helpful if anyone can share their experience with the trv application. Also, it seems that the IMM5257 can not be signed electronically, so do I leave it blank as signature is required when I am submitting all the material? Thank you.

Kayeebun,

When we create a profile on CIC (or GCKey on any federal government website), we must agree to the terms and conditions. This is a another way of taking your consent. This means that the creation of the profile and agreeing to the various steps of the process is taken as a proxy for our signature.

So, no need to worry about signing these "unsignable" forms if you are applying online. You don't have to print them off, sign, and scan them or anything like that. You can just submit them when they are complete and pay your fees. Just make sure you validate the IMM5257E form once you've completed filling in all the required info.

Good luck. Please give us a timeline of how your application is going.

Cheers!

Hey everyone,

Thank God I discovered this forum tonight! I'm kind of relieved to know that everybody has to wait so long - i was starting to think that there was something wrong with my application. But of course I cant' help feeling a little bit discouraged now.

Anyway, here is the timeline of my pgwp:

Applied: May 12th (full amount paid)
Blank update: N/A
Current status: Waiting as of July 26th (day 76)

Well... Apparently I'm gonna have to keep waiting more (thanks CIC you're sooooo efficient ;) )! Thanks guys for the initiative of making a list, such a good idea.

Cheers and good luck!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to update you. I went for flagpoling today and got my 3 year PGWP successfully :D
I went to the the Niagara Border (Rainbow Bridge) today morning and got it done. It was a very tireless experience. Literally took me only 55 minutes to complete everything. Just sharing my experience here for all those who are thinking of doing it:

1. Walked through the turnstile from Canadian side using the pedestrian walkway to the US side.

2. The officer immediately asked me if I was there for landing purpose (a.k.a flag-poling; they know there stuff), asked for my passport and in return gave me a white form stating "administrative refusal" and asked me to show it to the Canadian guys.

3. Got back to the Canadian border and the officer directed me to the immigration office for further processing.

4. The CBSA officer asked for my Passport, Study Permit, Completion Letter from College and my Original College Offer Letter (for study permit holders). He didn't ask for the printed paper application (IMM 5710) but for safe side, always take it.

5. Waited for maybe 30 minutes and then asked me to take pay the cashier $255 and get back the receipt. Took that receipt and gave me my PGWP within minutes.

It was a very effortless experience. Just look confident, be polite and most importantly have all the documents you need (even the ones you feel won't be required). All the best if you wish to try it! :)

I just have one question if someone can help me. Now that I have this work permit, how can I withdraw/cancel my online application?

Hey buddy,

Did the officer ask for your transcript or degree?

Thanks,

Flagpoling really works !!! :D ;D :D ;D

Thanks to everyone on this forum, you guys have been super Helpful and informative. Please keep up the good work.

Special thanks to Evantsp9 and Jubear!

Just sharing my experience so that others can benefit from it.

Background
I have done a 2 year masters and my spouse came along with me to canada. I was on a study permit and she got an open work permit. I applied for my PGWP and my Spouse OWP on May 18 and after waiting for more than 2 months and following advice on this forum primarily Jubear and Evantsp9 I went for flagpoling with my wife.

Flagpoling Experience
I took the greyhound bus from Montreal going to Boston at 8:15 a.m. in the morning. I took the ticket only till US costums (Border). I was processed as any other bus passenger at US border and then when I explained that I am here to go back to Canadian border for updating my work status. He asked me if you have been to US earlier I said yes and the officer gave me a 1 page letter saying that we have withdrawn our application to enter US and would be going back to the Canadian border on foot and he came along with us to show us the way and we went back to the Canadian border.

At the first check-point, the officer asked me why did you come to the border for application. I told him my wife's new employer wanted it urgently. Nothing else was asked and he guided us to go inside the office. A nice officer greeted us and asked our purpose of coming in and I told him that I wanted to apply for my PGWP and based on that my wife wanted to apply for her spousal OWP. He asked for documents - I said what exactly do you want? He responded by saying what do you have ?. Then I gave him only the required ones like my passport (which has my study permit), Degree, my transcript, my offer letter and my last two salary slips. For my wife I gave her passport (which has her work permit) and marriage certificate. That's it and he asked for any change in the address. We said Yes and gave our updated address. That's it he patiently kept working on the system and we waited in the lounge. He called us to check our work permits word by word and once checked he asked us to pay at the counter and once we paid we were done.

We took our work permits for three year stapled to our passport and left. Everything together took like 45 mins.

We had tickets to go back from the border to Montreal at 1:30 pm but bus never showed up and the first greyhound bus came at 5:15 pm. That was the only unpleasant experience but nothing as compared to the peace of mind we got by obtaining our 3 year work permits in a hassle free way.

Once again thanks to everyone on this forum to ask quality questions and those who patiently give quality answers.

You guys rock!!
