Hi all,

Just got home and spoke to my wife, we had a look online and the Processing Time for the London Office says 28 months! How can this be possible if the COPR is only valid for a year after the medical assessment?

Thanks for your response Evadyrrehs -- how long have you been waiting for PR for your spouse since submitting your application? Good to hear that it isn't necessarily a strict 6 months and that's it; that there are other options.

The issue as well is that we have a dog (have already dealt with everything needed for him to come over), so showing up with two large suitcases and our dog might not go over so well with visiting. It's difficult because the job offer is excellent and I can support both of us if she is unable to work, but it is a massive commitment at our end to sell everything, move out entire lives, if there is a slight chance of her being rejected at the border!

Thanks again for your help/support. You guys are great

The 28 months you see is the time required to process your application and send you the COPR. Also, London is not taking 28 months, it's somewhere around 8-12 as I mentioned earlier.

You get the COPR when your application is finished, not before.

The 28 months is worst case. Check out the London VO thread as I think most have been in the 8-12 month range with a straight forward no red flags or missing documents application. I think the Ottawa VO was at 16 months recently but we just received a DM on June 2, so 8+ months for us so far.. Now we await COPR in the mail .. Check in the September Outland link in the bottom of my profile.. There are people there still waiting with the London VO and at the 9 month or so now.. Things have slowed down a lot lately and there is out of sync processing as many in 2014 are still waiting while people from 2015 have been getting bumped ahead in line..

Others can chime in here but maybe it would be a safer idea for you to come here first and your wife to follow a week or two later.. If she can stay with family and then fly here at a later time and with a return ticket that would really help.. When my wife flew her last time from Chicago we bought her a return ticket for a few weeks later and never used it.. The first time she came here before we were married with a one way ticket and they almost did not let her in.. Peoples plans change and you do not need to use the return ticket and then she begins her 6 month stay countdown..

MilesAway, I saw your post earlier about the 8-12 months, but on the http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses.asp#europe link it shows it as 28 months. I thought it seemed a bit long.

Thanks for the suggestion Evadyrrehs, great idea. Think that sounds like the best idea and probably the way to go. Only issue that I can see now would be how would the visa office get in touch with us if our mobile phones aren't the same and the address has changed from UK to Canada, or is that something we would have to update them with once she actually arrived in Canada?

Thanks again

Look at the London thread. The explanation for the jump in posted times for London has been posted many times. It's due to the transfer of dated files from Islamabad. The same thing has happened with Warsaw, where the times have jumped (in a much smaller jump of course) from 8 to 12, because they took over files from Moscow.

CIC usually contacts you by e-mail, if one is given. If not, then it will be snail mail. You are responsible for updating CIC if your contact details change.

Yes you can update all that info once you are here.. Use your Canadian address as your wife's "mailing address" on the forms now if you can so that any documents will go there instead of back in the UK, much easier. Use email as your preferred method of correspondence rather than old school mail..
