Hello,

Does anyone know if there is a requirement for length of passport validity when applying for CEC?
I'm currently about 3 months into a full time job (would be 1 year in 2015 October) but my passport and PGWP is only valid until 2016 December 31. Assuming that I apply for CEC on Oct 1 (2015), I have 1 year and 3 months before both my passport and PGWP expires. I'm hoping to aim for the CEC express entry and would appreciate it I can receive some feedback on whether it would be possible to get my PR without having to further extend my passport/PGWP.

Thanks ahead.

Renew your passport before you apply.

My advice would be go for renewal of your passport as soon it reaches the threshold of your passport to be renewed . Express Entry PR is more in CIC hands and its very hard to speculate who/when/how a certain applicant will fall in their ranking system and who/when will be invited to apply for PR . Also there are lot LMIA complications which are quite uncertain to predict that an individual will get an invite for sure or not under Express Entry . What I mean is prediction is hard for EE , you can go ahead of your renewal of passport irrespective of when they Invite you and also Passport getting expired won't let you stop to apply though it can create hassles when they want to provide you stamped visa/COPR which will be obviously quite later in the process.

You do not necessarily have to have a longer validity passport. I applied for CEC in July 2014 and my passport was expiring Feb 2015.. Got the AOR without any issues..

However, if you can afford to wait for passport renewal and then you wish to apply later then i guess might as well renew passport.. but it is not an essential requirement.
