Hello,
I'm an Australian and I am currently on my ICE work permit. A few weeks ago I submitted an application for my Visa to becoming a permanent resident through common law and am awaiting results (haven't even got confirmation of processing yet). My current work permit however is about to expire as is my current SIN number. I was just wondering if anyone has been in a similar position and knows if I am legally able to work beyond this expiry on 'implied status' awaiting a verdict for my new application? Do I need to wait for them to approve work with the new interim work permit or do I just continue working?

Any information would be appreciated. I have tried contacting the IRCC but with the current Afghanistan issue, they aren't taking any calls/emails.

Warmest regards

Did you apply for PR through the inland spousal sponsorship process?
Did you include an open work permit application as part of the spousal sponsorship package?
If yes to both, then you will have implied status when your IEC expires and will be able to legally continue working until the open work permit is approved.

Yes, we went through the in Canada family sponsorship process and included the new work permit application. Thanks for the reply so soon! Yeah I assumed i could from reading on the site but didn’t want to risk it without some conformation. Is it also true that I can continue using my SIN number that will expire with my work permit?

Yep you should have no issues. I'm currently employed full time and am working on implied status in the exact same situation as you. My employer has no issues at all and just wants updates as I go along, but legally your SIN will still work :)
