Legal Status after Work Permit Expiration?

My American partner is planning to come here through IEC and will have a non-extendable one year open work permit. After it expires, she would like to stay in Canada with visitor status. After the OWP expires, will she automatically have visitor status, or will she need to exit the country and re-enter as a visitor?

Any help would be great!

Americans don't qualify for IECs. I assume you are taking about the SWAP program?

No - she won't automatically have visitor status once the SWAP visa expires. She would need to apply to change her status to visitor.

Note that she would need to apply to change her status to visitor BEFORE her work permit expires.
