Hi,

I am currently on a closed work permit (expiry in June), and am applying for jobs. In the website, the following question is asked :

"Are you legally eligible to work in the country that you are applying to?" The options available are yes/no.

How should I answer? What is the justification (in case the hr asks)

You should answer "No" and will need sponsorship because you don't have an open work permit that allows you to work in Canada.

You are in a closed work permit, you can only work for your current employer.
You won't be legally eligible to work in the country if you get a job offer from a new employer.
Usually this question is asked because the employer do not want to apply for a work permit for their employees. They want someone who already can work in Canada (OWP/PR/citizen).
