Because of work commitment, I can only take one week off to do my landing before my CoPR expires in April.

I know someone on this forum have done this before, but I want to make sure I get everything right.

Here are my concerns:

1. The city of destination on my CoPR is Vancouver, if I am going to land elsewhere, do I have to explain at the border about the change? (My PR card will be mailed to Vancouver)

2. If I leave the country within one week after landing, do I still have to update my SIN? how about MSP?

3. Since flight tickets to New York are fairly cheaper from Europe, I am thinking about taking a bus from Buffalo to Niagara falls to complete my landing. Is it "workable"? How much time is needed for the landing process?

4. If I am going back to Canada in August/Sept, according to current timeline, I am afraid my PR card won't be available by then. What will happen if I enter Canada without a PR card?

This is all I can think of now, please do point out if I have missed anything.
Thank you in advance! :)

1. No, you don't need to explain.

2. You can update your SIN when you return. You cannot apply for MSP until you actually move to BC.

3. Yes, you can do that. Time for landing depends on the border crossing, time of day etc.

4. You will either need to apply for a PRTD or cross the Canada-US border in a private car with your COPR.

many thanks for the reply.

i got another question now, if i return to Canada for good in Aug/Sept this year. I will not be able to stay in Canada for at least 183 days, that means the days i spent in the country in 2016 will not be counted towards citizenship?

Also, what will be my taxation status in Canada for 2016... it's getting complicated.... ???

No, 2016 days would not be counted if you are not here for 183 days.

Once you actually move to Canada, you will become a tax resident. It's really not complicated.

If I am able to find cheap tickets to Toronto, I would prefer to land at YYZ so that the landing process won't affect other passengers (comparing to taking bus from Buffalo). However, if I still want to make a trip to New York, at that time I will be a landed immigrant, can I come back to Toronto (by bus) with my CoPR?

If you are visa-exempt, that's fine. If you are not visa-exempt, you will not be able to cross by bus, as it is a commercial carrier and would require you to have either a valid TRV or a PR card.

Kind of same situation of hkcec. I am going to land this Saturday in Calgary. We live outside of Canada and we can be there for just one week, as both my wife and I have a job in UK and we are not going to move before one year.

I have a few questions:

- Is it a problem to tell the officer that we are going to be there for just one week? I would prefer to say the truth, also because they could see from the flight tickets.

- Regarding the list of things to bring in. I don't know exactly what we will be taking in the future. How much detailed have these lists to be?
I mean, there is any example around?

- Is it mandatory we do SIN card and other stuff now? I don't really need them now. I was thinking to enjoy the Rockies more than going around in offices? :D

Thanks

1. There is nothing wrong about leaving right after landing. You will not be denied PR because of that and you will not loose PR if you return soon enough to fulfill your residency requirements (you have to spend 2 years of every 5 in Canada, so you have at most 3 years to return)

2. Fairly detailed. If it's not on the list you will be charged customs fees when you bring it in (including sales tax...). http://settlement.org/ontario/immigration-citizenship/landing-and-leaving/landing-in-canada/i-am-immigrating-to-canada-how-do-i-bring-my-belongings-with-me/

3. You can get new SIN at the airport when you land. It's extra 5 minutes.

How I can do that?
My current temporary SIN was obtained at Service Canada, it's possible to get it at any airport?

I'm going to land on March

Thanks

It is possible at Pearson at least (and I'm not sure if it's 24/7 or for example just weekdays).

By updating the SIN number, does it mean that I will become a taxation resident even I don't work in Canada during the year?

No. Residency for taxation purposes depends on your ties to Canada.
