Yes school leaving certificate (in English or bilingual hindi + english or your state or country language + english, but if you get completely only in english by school than its good) is valid for proof of Birth instead of if you dont have birth certificate, just get notary copy and send along with your application.

As per the new rule after 26 June 2010 you need to submit all the documents to CIO Nova Scotia.
As per my information from this forum initially CIO, NS was not accepting applications with 10th Marks card as date of birth certificate. However after some time they started accepting (may be CHC Delhi informed them about most of Indians born before 1989 not have bith certificate ).
In case you may delay your application for some time then you may send a email to CHC delhi and seek for their advice. Attach the reply with your application (as proof) and send it to CIO with your application.
Also if your serach the thread initiated by FMA (Post 26 June applicant, this thread is always on the first page , so easy to find) you may get this reply already posted by some of the new delhi members) you may request them the email copy and use it with your application.
