Leaving Canada without PR card

Good evening!

My parents landed as a permanent residents and currently waiting for their first PR card. Yesterday, CIC requested them to submit new photos. So it seems it may take time to get the card.

As my grandma back home is having health issues, they are planning to go home now without the card. I will be receiving their cards and later giving it to them in person. Just wondering, will there be any issues for my parents in the future when returning to Canada or any issues with their permanent residency status?

If you plan to travel to hand deliver their PR Cards, and they are able to return to Canada before accumulating 1095 days abroad, they should have no issues maintaining their PR status. Remember that only the PR Card itself expires; PR status does not. PR status can be revoked if the Residency Obligation is not met, which requires the PR to be residing in Canada for at least 730 days in each rolling 5 year period.

I agree, it should be fine. I have travelled before in similar circumstances and had the card mailed to me via fedex and entered canada normally after.

They will be fine. Just have to make sure that they keep track of their time spent outside of Canada and be able to meet their RO before they return.
We all know that PGP is on a lottery system. So make sure they meet their RO to keep their PR status.

If they have already applied for a Health card they should not use it unless they know they will be able to meet the residency requirement in that province to qualify for healthcare. Usually 6-12 months residency in the province during the first year plus other requirements. They would need to reapply on their permanent return.
