Hi Friends,

I am planning to enter Canada in November for a week to complete my landing formalities and to apply the PR card. My COPR is valid until 24th November and I am planning to enter Canada sometime on 17th of November and leaving Canada on 25th of November.

Is there any problem in leaving Canada with COPR expired? I am planning to re-enter when I have the PR card. Please share your thoughts.

Thanks!

If you leave the country without your PR card (which is now essentially your proof of residence as well as your travel card to re-enter Canada), then there are 3 options available for you in order to return back to Canada:
1. Have someone carry or send your PR card once received in mail. However Please note that it is possible but NOT RECOMMENDED to send PR card outside of Canada in mail/courier. If it is noticed at the border then it may be seized by the border authorities.
2. Apply for PRTD (Permanent Resident Travel Document) from the Canadian embassy once you leave. This is good for single entry and may take upto 3-4 weeks for the embassy to process.
3. If you have US visa (or dont need it) then fly to US and travel to Canada by road and enter by showing ur Copr. This is not ideal but is acceptable only for border crossings by "Road" in a private car.

Thanks @onkarsharan for your response.

My query is around leaving Canada. Do I need a valid COPR (not expired) or any other document to leave Canada ?

Thanks!

Bro, Visit VFS office nearby to apply for your travel document... You can take that along back to Canada . It is a one time travel document which you get from VFS Global incase you do not have PR Card and you are traveling back to India for some reason. It wont cost much either. Its a quick process at VFS office.

Refer to below links

Hope this helps.

Nope... Just need your Passport and ticket. Keep your Expired CoPR just for reference. Keep your all documents as you may need in India to apply for your travel document

You won't be able to enter back in Canada if you have expired CoPR or used on your first landing and also do not have PR card or any travel document. So you need travel document from India.

Thanks @Damanpreet. I will definitely apply for PR resident travel document once I am back in India after completing my landing formalities.

No. You can leave Canada any time you’d like. It’s not like they force you to stay.
