Leaving Canada when the document is under process

Hi, I applied for CEC in October 2012. I have received confirmation that the documents are now under process by the visa office.
Due to my personal situation, I have to go back to my country for a while, not sure how long though... maybe like one year?
Can i still finish my application process in my home country? I mean i still have to do medical examination and interview (if applicable).
Once I get the approval, I will come back for about a week to do the landing.

Some people have told me that i can't leave canada when the applicant is still in process.

You can leave Canada while your application is under processing. And if you can find a doctor that's certified by CIC in your country, you can even get your medicals there too.
