Leaving Canada to validate your PR status - time limit?

Hello,

I apologize in advance if this matter has been discussed before. I browsed thoroughly and I cannot find such a specific answer I need. I've been granted a PR status and what I understand is that I have to leave Canada and re-enter in order to fully obtain that status. What I've been wondering about is whether there is a time limit for my staying outside Canada. Meaning, how long can I be absent before having to return to Canada in order for my PR status to be valid? Is there an (approximate) time limit?

Thank you for your replies in advance.

Who told you that you have to validate anything?
There is no need for such an action.

Depending on how you applied you can either flag pole at the boarder which consists of going to the boarder getting rejected by the Americans and going back to Canada and at the boarder saying you want to land as a PR. If you applied Inland as a family sponsorship you need to get an appointment at a CIC office and they will handle it.

It sounds like you have a PR visa, not PR status. The PR visa has an expiry date. If you do not "land" in Canada before this date, the visa expires and you do not become a PR. You could flagpole at the border (go to the US border and come right back) or you could go on a vacation or other trip outside Canada as long as you return before the PR visa expires or you could make an appointment to land at your local CIC office although there may be a few weeks wait for that.

After landing as a PR and gaining your PR status, you have a residency obligation of staying in Canada at least 730 days in any 5 year period so as 730 days is 2 years, you can leave Canada for up to 3 years at a time but then you would have to stay for a solid 2 years afterwards to make good on your residency obligation.
