Hello all,

I hope you are doing well. I am in the process of sponsoring my spouse to Canada as a permanent resident. This is an Outland application. While going through Social Media posts on the subject, I have come across many people being given tough time during spousal application sponsoring if the Sponsor is PR and has left Canada for longer than a month even if the sponsor has met their physical presence requirement. Through IRCC's own resources (I called three times, spoke to different agents and confirmed) there is no restriction on sponsor leaving Canada. Has anyone here experienced difficulty because they visited the PA for longer than a month during this sponsorship process?

Yes. People have been refused. PRs are required to live in Canada throughout the entire sponsorship process. Leaving for more than a few weeks risks the app being refused.

The call centre staff are poorly trained and give out wrong answers all the time, so don't rely on them.

Thank you for your response. Do they ask for sponsor to provide proof that they are staying in Canada during spousal sponsorship process or do they simply reject?

If they believe you aren't in Canada, you would likely get a Procedural Fairness letter.

I see and what exactly would I need to provide in case they ask for any information?
Would having a valid lease, credit statement with transactions for bills (utilities, phone etc.), a job offer letter stating date of start of work and/or letters from family members who live in the same household suffice?

None of those actually show you are in Canada. You would need proof that you are actually in Canada.
