Hello,

Due to family circumstances I have to leave Canada. I received my AOR and my application is in progress.Should I tell citinzenship and immigration that I left Canada and should I update my address to a non Canada address ? My roommate told me I can keep her address as mine. She suggested that if I change my address to a non Canada address, my application isn’t going to be processed.
Are there any of you who have left Canada and didn’t update their address and left it as a Canadian address and received their citizenship ?
thanks a lot

Most likely your application will be delayed or processed as non-routine if you were to leave Canada, and provide a non-Canadian address. Good luck!

Should I keep the Canadian address then or would that be considered as fraud ?

Dont worry you can leave as long as you meet the citizenship requirements and maintain your PR. Just let the address be of your friend. Dont trust anyone but just believe Canadian official website:

Can I leave Canada after I mail my citizenship application?
Yes. You can leave Canada after we receive your application.
If you need to leave Canada and want to stay eligible for Canadian citizenship, you must:
  • make sure that you live in Canada long enough to keep your Permanent Resident (PR) status
  • be a permanent resident (when you apply)
  • not lose PR status before you take the Oath of Citizenship
  • bring your PR card with you when you leave Canada so you can return easily
Make sure your PR card won’t expire while you are outside Canada.

Thank you !! Do I let citizenship know I left Canada ?
so it won’t be considered fraud if I leave the address of my friend ?

the main purpose of address is so they can communicate with you incase if they need to, plus you need to be present in Canada for tests, interviews and ceremony.

"We usually only mail letters, notices and other documents to addresses in Canada. In some cases, you may receive an email from us. You must reply to these letters or emails within a specified amount of time. If you don’t reply within the time frame and don’t provide an acceptable reason for not being able to keep your appointment with us or providing requested information, we may stop processing your application.

You must attend appointments and other events at our offices, like your:

  • citizenship test (for applicants 18 to 54 years of age)
  • interview or hearing
  • ceremony"

You can indicate your residential address out of Canada and give a mailing address in Canada. That would not be misleading. If you give all your addresses in Canada and no longer live in Canada that is misleading.

Hey, how is your application going? Any updates?

I was in a similar situation. Left Canada: I put my overseas address as residential and left my friend's address as a mailing address. Then after AOR, they emailed me asking for a "residential address in Canada". I just gave them my friend's address again. I might be committing fraud I don't know.
