Hello,

I have applied for spousal sponsorship and permanent residency, inland. I found out yesterday that I was supposed to keep my status in canada current, in which I have not. It expired May 1st. I called the call center yesterday and they suggested that I just go to the states to visit family or friends and come back in on a new visa that will last long enough for my papers to come through. She also said I should expect first stage appoval late November. She said that I should not have any issues coming back to Canada since I have my client ID number and that I am married.

I was just wondering if I will have any trouble getting back in at the border after being gone for 4-5 days? I have not had any issues entering Canada before.

Once I return to Canada I plan on being here a week to help my wife move and get settled in to our new place, then I have a trip planned to got to Boston for a week. I again am wondering if I will have any troubles there, I plan on booking a flight out of Calgary. Is there anything I need to do so it goes smoothly? Or should I just not plan on going to Boston?

Hey there.. applying inland as a visa exempt person is a mistake for this reason. If you are turned away and not permitted back into Canada, your application goes out of the window and you have to start over again. This being said, you will probably be ok to come back into Canada, but I wouldn't push my luck with multiple trips. Have proof of finances and ties to the US, say you are visiting Canada for a little while and that you have already applied for PR, and once you get your status 're-set', I'd suggest staying put!

What do you mean after it is re-sent? They have not sent my file back to me, call centre suggested that I just send them my new status and have them add it to my file.

re-SET, not resent. When you cross the border your visitor's status is re-set to another 6 months unless they tell you otherwise.
