Hi,

A bit about my situation:

My girlfriend lives in dominican republic. She is 20 years old and studies medicine there. She has family (her cousin and his wife and kids) that live here in Montreal.
We are thinking of applying for a tourist visa for her to go to a language school here for less than 6 months.
From what I understand it is hard to get a student visa for language schools.
So does this mean that she would not be able to extend her stay past the 6 months?
Also from what I understand it is better that she does not mention that she has a boyfriend here as it could hurt her chances of being perceived as a legitimate student? I was told by one of the language schools to go through their lawyer to make sure everything is in order, is this useful or do they just want my money? They also said that she should have in her bank about 1500$ per month she wants to be in Canada, meaning 7500$ in her bank account if she wanted to stay for 6 months. Would it be a problem if I sent her that money to her bank account? Would this whole process hurt our chances of her becoming a PR after we got married?

Thank you so much in advance!

1) It would be best for her to come here on her own credentials: Student studying, show paid tuition, and money in account. Single large deposits of money look like you are trying to just show money and not long term income. It would look better if there are multiple transfers.

2) Saying she is visiting family for a short period of time while studying is understandable, but staying with a boyfriend will trigger alarm bells that she will not go back after the stay she requests.

3) Although CIC says using a lawyer does't make it easier. Personally I think it does because they know tips and tricks. Also I think it would make her look more legit as a visitor going through the school.

4) You can always apply to extend but there is no guarantee.

5) It should have no effect on her ability to get PR if you are sponsoring her in the future. It might help. PR is a whole different can of worms.

So basically you want to get her to Canada on the excuse she will be studying to then extend her stay and finally get married and a PR..... hmmmm

It will be difficult to hide all that and I sense that your story won't add up leading to a refusal. It should be no surprise as you are actually not being honest about your intentions.

1) You have to show strong ties, if she shows 7500 in her account then the story won't add up, no medicine student is allowed to interrupt their studies for 5 months? So you are actually rendering useless the tie.
2) Of course a large deposit will be super suspicious.

I would recommend for both of you being honest, create a real relationship (get married for example) and then applying for PR under the sponsorship program. You see "get here as a student and then we can get married" is one of the oldest tricks in the book, CIC knows it quite well.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I didn't mean that we would get married here while she was here and then apply for PR. She would be going back after her course. She does want to visit and she does want to actually learn the language. This is not just a trick to get her here and get married, sorry if I was unclear.
Regarding the 7500$, they want more than just a proof of balance? They want proof of from where and when the money came in?

Well, from the questions you can infer that the intentions were not fully honest. Anyway this should help you to get together a better appplication as our questions and doubts will surely be asked by CIC officials when deciding on your application.

They want to be sure where the money is coming from, if it is a large deposit they want to know the nature. If it is savings they want to see the balance slowly growing. The story has to make sense. A large deposit sounds like a way of, as davek said, of getting rid of the requirement and raises suspicion on a third person interest on having that person in Canada. If that third person is nowhere to be seen in the application (for example parents do deposit large sums of money, but it is explained in the application and it is clear where and why the money is coming from) it again raises suspicion on the nature of the trip.

She should include a letter from her school indicating when she plans to resume her medical studies. She should also pay her tuition for her next semester / term and include this as proof that she will be returning home at the end of her visit. Without paying the tuition for her next semester / term - it's quite possible her medical studies won't be seen as a strong tie (i.e. it will look like she's willing to walk away from her studies).

Thank you. So if I'm reading in between the lines it is better that the money comes from her parents bank account?
What I am saying is that you want a TRV for her under the "study" reason but you also have another intent (be with her while she studies). If you are not going to say you are his boyfriend then whatever story you decide to tell IT HAS TO MAKE SENSE.
