Hello,

My wife came as a dependent PR with me to Canada so she don't have any language certificate. She has a bachelor of degree in computer engineering from Gujarat Technological University. The degree certificate is in English. But it doesn't say the medium is English.

I have gone through a lot of threads and am still not able to find any answer that can confirm that the degree certificate got accepted by IRCC. As per CIC,[1] program can be outside of Canada, and proof must be in English. So will this be sufficient?

Did you or do you attend a secondary or post-secondary program in English or French?
The program can be in or outside Canada.

If you did, send a copy of proof that you completed or are attending a program with your application. Proof can be your:

  • diploma
  • transcript
  • certificate
Your proof must be in English or French.

Very hard for anyone to tell you about a particular program or university - would depend whether you can show somehow that the institution or the course instruction is entirely in English. WOuld be easier if all instruction at university in English.

If in doubt, honestly, costs a couple hundred dollars to sit the tests and for someone who did complete graduate level in English, it should be a toddle - so may be easier to just do that and be done with it.

I had the same issue, but with Nagpur University. There's a document called "Medium of Instruction" or might be worded slightly differently but essentially states the student name, course, roll number and that the medium of instruction for the course was English on the university letterhead. Get that document and attached a scanned copy along with the degree certificate.

Thanks, I got a language certificate from Gujarat Technological University which shows the medium of instruction is English.
If anyone is in the same situation, they can request it from here -

I was not going to spend $200 for an exam which is unnecessary. I will update this once my wife gets approval for this.
This should do the trick. Good luck!
