Language proficiency question

Any help appreciated:

I'm an American citizen and I scored 9 out of 9 on the language exam in 2012. But, the web site seems to imply that the test is only good for two years. Do I really have to take another language proficiency exam? It was a waste of time and money 5 years ago and it seems silly that I need to repeat this. Any advice appreciated.

Depends what you're wanting to do. If you want to apply to immigrate through an economic immigration stream, taking a language test is mandatory (your application will be refused without one) and they expire after two years. Make sure you take one of the approved language tests (IELTS General or CELPIP).

I initially got my permanent residency through the Canadian Experience Class program. I think I'll be applying for citizenship through Express Entry. I'm a bit flabbergasted that I need to spend another day and $500+ when I have a masters degree. Is there no exemption? Thanks again.

1. Assuming your a permanent residence, then you don't apply for citizenship through express entry, You apply here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/index.asp
2 Your previous language test results are still valid for citizenship purposes, for citizenship it doesn't expire, but for immigration it is valid for 2 years,
