If I am travelling from the UK and will be doing the landing in Canada by air. What will I have to show to the airline in the UK? My visa just expired. I got a new one but the original is in Canada with my lawyer. I have an ETA but I don't think this is relevant technically now that I have PR.

I have my CoPR with me to do the landing when I arrive at the airport in Canada. Will the airline just ask to see that before I board in the UK? I also have my visa with me (that expired a few weeks ago) and a copy of my new work permit (that will be non-existent when I get PR anyway).

TIA :)

If you are outside Canada
When you arrive in Canada, you will be greeted by an officer from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

The officer will ask to see your passport and other travel documents. Make sure they are not packed in your luggage, and that you have them with you. This will help speed up your entry to Canada.

When you arrive, you must have:

Your valid passport and/or travel documents. Your passport must be a regular, private passport. You cannot immigrate to Canada with a diplomatic, government service or public affairs passport.
Your valid permanent resident visa (if you are from a country that requires visas) and your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR). The officer will make sure you are entering Canada before or on the expiry date shown on your visa. Please note that this document cannot be extended; therefore, you should make sure to use it before it expires.
Proof that you have the funds to support yourself and your family after you arrive in Canada.
The officer will ask you a few questions to make sure you still meet the terms to immigrate to Canada. They will be similar to the ones you answered when you applied.

You will not be allowed into Canada if you give false or incomplete information. After completing your COPR, the officer will allow you to enter Canada as a permanent resident. The officer will also confirm your Canadian mailing address. Your permanent resident card will be mailed to you at this address.

If you change your address within 180 days of arriving in Canada, you must notify CIC using this online tool.

Mark me as good if this helped

If you have a UK passport or a passport from a visa exempt country, all you need to present at the UK airport of departure is your passport and COPR (if you only have a one way ticket). Note that you need to get an ETA, if you haven't already.
If you have a return ticket, no one really needs to know what you plan to do in Canada. Your passport and ticket would suffice.

However, if you require an entry visa for Canada, you must represent this at the airport. Your COPR would not suffice.

When you get to Canada, you will go through immigration and present your COPR, take along with proof of funds. I printed my bank statements from the last 2 months. Only the final balance was briefly glanced at and inputted in the system. You also need a correspondence address in Canada.

Have a detailed list ready with items you are bringing with you when you arrive as well as items you will ship on a later date, as these will be the only items you will be allowed to bring in tax free. You need to present this list to customs after your permanent residence is approved.

Once in Canada, go to any Service Canada office around you to get a Social Insurance Number. This does not have to be done on the same day you landed.

I landed at Calgary (West jet flight Gatwick to Calgary) and they didn't asked for proof of funds.
Correspondence address is must, PR card will be sent to this address.
Make sure your picture is on COPR (this pic is required for PR card)

Thanks for all your responses.

I actually already live in Alberta, but I only just got CoPR before I left to go to the UK so figured I may as well do the landing when I flew back in from the UK.

What did they ask to see when you were at Gatwick airport? Just your Passport and CoPR? Think I am more concerned about the flight from England than the landing as I have been to a few other countries around the world to work and airlines often get confused with the whole visa/PR process.

Hello guys,

I have gotten my PR (Provincial nominee/ Ontario) few days ago and have sent our passports. I live in Toronto while my wife and my son are in Halifax. Does it really matter if we do the landing in Toronto and Halifax or it has to be done in Toronto as the province i was nominated for? Thank you in advance.
