LANDED..........
27-03-2016
Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to land either this weekend or early next week (will probably drive to Buffalo for a day trip and then head back in). I have a couple of questions about the landing process that I'm hoping people can help with!

1) On my COPR, my date of original entry into Canada is incorrect - do I need to contact CIC in advance about this, or just notify the officer at the border?

2) I've seen people mention taking new photos with them to the border - what size of photos should I be getting? Is this something that non-visa exempt applicants were asked for at PPR?

3) I've seen people elsewhere mentioning to show proof of funds - I don't have 12,000 CAD in my canadian bank account. However, my mother is holding in trust some money for me that theoretically she could transfer to me - is this necessary? Do I need to bring copies of my bank statements with me to the border?

Plus if anyone has any general advice/ tips for what I need to take/prepare for the border I'd really appreciate it!

1.- I don't know, same case here, I didn't ask at the border about it. I guess you have to contact CIC but it doesn't affects landing.

2.- Photos are not requested.
Sometimes after landing CIC is requesting for new photos, I guess border officers could note photo need to be updated

You can bring photos just in case, search for PR card pictures standards or ask any professional photographer (one picture have to be dated by the photographer), same thing you did for photos sent with application.

3.- CEC doesn't require POF, nor applicants currently working here. I wasn't asked about it

Most people just notify at the border. It seems some people are getting different answers though - the officer I saw went into a back room to find out for me and came back and said it didn't matter and didn't bother changing it - she said the only date that mattered was the date on the stamp (landing date).

I read others saying they changed it at the border. The officer I saw didn't want it to look like the COPR was 'tampered with'.

My date on my COPR was also incorrect for the original date and last date of entry. I spoke to the officer and he told me that they can't change anything there and that I would have to contact immigration itself in regards to it.
I had taken new photos due to people saying they needed them here. The officer didn't think he did, but he took them and attached them to my paperwork just incase.
It honestly took under 5 mins total for me, and I was only asked a couple of questions.

1) My date of original entry was also incorrect, but since the rules changed, and our time "pre-PR" no longer counts for the citizenship application , I will not ask to be changed at this point. If you want to do it, there is a form for that: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5218ETOC.asp

2) If you received PPR recently, then the photo size should be correct. I landed yesterday at the Rainbow Bridge and they did not ask me for new photos.

3) The officer only asked me for my CoPR, passport and document with my address in Canada (I gave my driver license). I brought recent bank statements just in case but the officer did not ask for that.

Thanks so much for the details everyone! I'm hoping for a nice smooth process - I'm guessing it might be a little busy this weekend but I really don't want to wait any longer than I have to :D

The Bill C-6 just passed second reading two days ago, the pre PR time credit will restore up to 1 year, so you may want to make sure the org entry date is correct. Congrats!

Hi regarding your 3rd statement , do we need to show a proof of address , i just moved to a new place this month and i don`t have any proofs or lease agreement.

The officer just asked "a document with your address". Since I had my driver license, that worked.
Do you have any proof of address (any letter with your name: utility bill, etc)?

If you don't have at all a document with your address because you just moved, try to explain the situation. Maybe a letter from the landlord confirming you live on that address?

ok thanks, probably will show them the mail communication i had with my landlord.
Its strange that they are asking for proof of address, what proof can I give supposing if I am arriving in canada for the first time.

As I said, she asked me for a document with my address. I don't think it is a requirement for landing. Bring anything with your current address and you should be fine (print something out, an email for instance). Your example is very good: someone coming to Canada for the first time probably would not have an "official" proof of address.

Can anyone please share me the list of documents and questions they normally ask in landing.

COPR
Passport
Answer 2 COPR questions: criminality records and dependants not listed.

Perhaps: Proof of address, if available

CEC applicants doesn't need Proof of Funds

Any question officer considers appropiate.
I don't remember any other question asked to me, except to confirm we weren't exceeding allowed limits for goods.
(If you're importing personal goods, you should have a list and a form filled out).
