landing issues... need advice

I just did my landing at Vancouver. Most of it went well, but there were 2 problems:

1. For the PR card, I gave them my relative address, but the officer told me that I need to be there to physically sign for the card, and gave me a form that I can use when I move to Canada to apply for my PR card. Do I really need to be here to sign for the card when it is delivered by mail?

2. For the list of goods to follow, I had two copies printed out. But the officer did not take a copy nor did the officer stamp or sign any of them. All the officer told me to do was to call a number on a print-out the officer gave me and fix an appointment with the customs officer when the goods arrive at the border. I told the officer that it was necessary to stamp a copy and for them to keep a copy, but was told that it was not necessary. I do not want to pay taxes on my items again. Please advice since I believe they need to keep a copy and stamp my copy.

I would appreciate any advice.

1) This is not correct. You don't have to sign for it.

2) Here you knew more than the Customs officer. They may not need a copy but you should have got a date stamp on each page of your B4. Hopefully you have the officer's ID number? If so just refer to him/her later. If not, don't worry too much about it as long as you don't have any items on the list worth over $10,000.

The problem is that I have my car which is over $10,000. I also have other electronic items. Is there number that I can contact to get this rectified? The officers number is on my proof of permanent resident copy.

Would you get $10,000 if you sold your car in Canada today? That's the value you would have to declare. I bought my car for 15,000 but Canada customs valued my 2005 Impala to $2,500. It's not the total value of your goods - only individual items. My entire list was valued to over $30,000 but no individual items valued over $10,000.

Anyway, I suggest you call the number the officer gave you to get clearification. Also, just to make sure I understand - do you have goods to follow? Have you already landed and you have a car and other stuff that you will bring later?

I got the goods to follow stamped. I just went to the CBSA office at the airport and explained what had happened. They were very nice and helped me out.

I'm about to get my landed papers (for myself and my son),and I don't know what to do next, please advise? I was informed to take the landed papers to the border to make it official...I don't understand that process, but I need to know what I need to bring with me for the process.

Thanks!

Go to the immigration centre in your city. You may be able to get it processed there. If not, you can ask them what to do when you go to the border.

I am not a good person to ask this question... but you need to have the documents mentioned on the CIC website. Make sure when the officer at the border is processing your landing papers, they stamp your goods to follow list and also process your PR card.
Make sure they stamp your goods to follow list.

Thank you all for your advices, but I'm still a little confuse. I'm living here in Canada for the time being. All my belongings are already here, so when I go to the border to file my landed papers what will I tell the officers?
All I brought with me are my clothes and shoes and my son of course. Some of you mentioned lists of goods??? Can I type up my own list and give it to the officer myself?

I landed in Vancouver and processed my documents there though my destination was Calgary. I realized the officer in Vancouver did not ask for my list of good accompanying. I went back to inquire and was told to do that in Calgary. On arrival at the Calgary Airport, I went to Customs and they took a copy of the document, stamped it and said I could bring the items in duty free within 5 years.

I suggest you go to your local customs with your list and have it stamped. If you wait too long, it might become a problem later.

For information of list of goods to follow check the website http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca

You need to mention the items and the value in Canadian Dollars along with the model number and serial number if applicable.
