I current live in New York City and myself, my wife and my son will be landing in March 15th 2011. We will go first, rent a temporary place and then once we find an apartment, I will have my brother send our furniture. However, I was wondering if it is worth to bring our staff from the US to Toronto. I do not know how much it will cost sometimes we think it might be better to sell everything and buy everything in Toronto.

What do you guys think?

This is something we've been considering too. I don't have an answer for you but I will tell you what we've decided to do...and of course as time grows closer we may change our mind. We've decided to sell as much as we can here - possibly selling our house as furnished as possible - so we don't have so much with us when we cross the border. We're going to be living in the Southwest NS area, coming from Georgia. Anywho, we figured we'd only come with basic stuff and buy whatever we need once we get settled. For us, it's a matter of having such a long distance to drive that makes us not want to have so much to bring along. We have family in NS so we've thought about shipping stuff ahead of time for his parents to store for us until we get there. Hope this helps some. :)

I bought everything I needed here. Didn't pay to ship my stuff from across the Atlantic to here.

You live close to here, so I shall advice you to bring them with you or at least the stuff, small stuff you can better save up on buying here, like kitchenware, bedroom linnen, etc, you would/could better have with you.

Why don't you just rent a RV and take some stuff here? is easier.

The problem is that I do not have a permanent place to stay yet. I will stay in a temporarily place and I do not want to bring anything with me. I found a company here that is willing to store my stuff and then deliver it to me in Toronto and they want to charge me $ 3,500.00. I am still thinking.

Then the only thing you should do is to find a place that is either already furnished or just take all the real necessary stuff with you that you can avoid buying with you and once you have an address and know it is the right time to have your stuff over, arrange that, or you better go to NY and take your furniture with you.

Be careful not to spend your money on stuff you won't need.
