Am I right in assuming that once you get COPR, you only need to LAND in Canada by the deadline date but you don't need to necessarily STAY in Canada from the deadline date? I have read that people land in Canada, check in with the PR people and then fly back out to their home country to continue packing up their old lives.

The only reason I'm asking is because we may not be fully ready to move when COPR comes through, so it would be good to know that I could officially land in Canada but then fly back to UK to finish packing etc.

Is this right?

You can do but I would be careful about disclosing this to the CBSA agent that you deal with. There has been an incident where a CBSA refused entry to somone holding a COPR because they were not ready to move to Canada permanently. I have friend who did this and were still in the process of selling their house etc and would have been moving in a few weeks and they had no issues landing then coming back to tie up loose ends. Just a note of caution!
