Hi everyone

I'm fairly new here and I'm looking for some help!

I've applied to sponsor my husband as a permanent resident--we're living together in the UK at the moment. We received our email today requesting copies of passports, etc. There is a condition in our email saying that he has to present his COPR before his medical expires, or else the COPR will expire. This is going to happen in a couple of months and we were hoping to stay here until the end of September as we both have jobs.

My questions are:

1. is it possible to get another medical so that his COPR is valid for longer?
2. is it possible for him to enter Canada and present his COPR, and for us then to come back to the UK together for a few months before officially moving to Canada later on this year?

Thanks in advance for your help, any advice much appreciated!

Hi

1. Unless CIC requests a new medical, they may not consider it.

2. Yes, it's possible to land and return to the UK to wrap up your affairs.

#2 is entirely possible. No issues at all. And since you are a Canadian citizen (presumably, since you're sponsoring your husband while you live abroad) the time you spend together in the UK will even count for him to keep his PR status.

#1 depends on how far along the application is you are in the process and whether the new medical would be processed before the CoPR is issued. If the medical is processed before the CoPR is issued (and the file is updated), then the CoPR will expire one year from the new medical (or when his passport expires, if that's sooner). You could try to reply to the e-mail and let the Embassy know you're going to do it and ask them to wait on issuing the CoPR. Be prepared for extra wait times as it may take them a while to reach the BF date they set (bring forward date ... the date they will place the application on hold until). In fact, if you choose to go down this path, I'd remind them 3 weeks after the medical exam as they should be able to pull the results by then (and hopefully you can shorten the wait time the file goes on hold for).

Depending on how soon the medical expires, option #3 would be to ask them if they can extend the medicals. See http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/medical-exam-validity-extension-for-additional-12-months-new-cic-bulletin-t106229.0.html

This is really helpful, thanks so much!

We just received the request for copies of passports etc. today, and need to have everything sent over within 30 days. I didn't realise that it might be an option to get another medical before the CoPR had been issued. We'll definitely look into this!

Sorry for posting another question here. I'm just wondering if, when my husband arrives in Canada to present his CoPR, we both need to be there or he can be on his own? Just checking as it's quite an expensive trip for us.

Many thanks!
