Hi,

I landed tody at Toronto for my landing formalities. It took just 20 minutes for me to come out of the airport. I took the Bangalore- Delhi-Toronto Flight. It landed exactly at 7:15am in the morning. There were hardly about 8-10 people for the PR immigration. The immigration officer took my COPR (IMM 5292B)and asked me an address to fill in the COPR form. I had filled in my friends address in the PR Card Application (IMM 5444E) card and gave the same to the officer. He copied the same address in the COPR form and said that my PR cards will be sent in 30 days to this address. I asked if if I need to submit the PR Card Application (IMM 5444E) and he said that there is no need for this. I was a bit worried and asked him again if they do not require this and he again mentioed no it will be sent to the address you have given in the COPR form.

Let me know if this could be a problem as I see in the fourm that all of you have submitted the PR Card Application (IMM 5444E).

I have a US license and it is valid till 29 Dec 2010. I will be staying in Canada till this Friday afternoon. I checked at the in the MOU and it states that I can swap this license for a Canadian license. Can I use my COPR (IMM 5292B) to show my addess proof.

Regards

Congratulations Romford !!!

Hi Qorax, I just want to ask you regarding the ppr thing.. If the visa office requested for our passports can we withdraw a portion of our pof so we can buy our plane tickets ahead and convert some to canadian dollars?

Hi rene,

obviously im not Qorax but with regards to your question, i think it is fine to withdraw some money for as long as your balance will pass the required proof of funds. However, if it will be less than the required, better think 5 times. :)

regards

Dear Rene
It is better not to withdraw POF untill u get decision made status.

Dear SPS,
Welcome to Canada!! I am also from Bangalore!! landed on 4th October. Yes you are right you can goto Drivers test office and get it swapped asap.

They need your COPR passport and licence nothing else, they just need Address to send you DL no address proof they ask for

Only place which needs a Valid Address proof is OHIP evry other place they just ask you to give the correct address

Good luck to you!!

Hi All,
I would like to share another very key important information!! As I was worried initially about my wife being pregnant,

About her initial checkup and other costs like blood test ultrasound etc, as NO Insurance covers these for the OHIP wait period!!

One good news I want to share with all of you as I thought this could be a thread other than the Health threads

I was recommended to Community health center by SAFSS (South Asian Family support service or newly called as Settlement and Family support service)

You may have to check for community health center which covers your residential area, WEST HILL Community center is what I went to, and now my wife got a family doctor associated and went through all the checkups tests including Ultrasound, and she will be referred to OBG also all these without any cost, the Ultra sound and test lab are private where they refers to and along with the prescription they provide a letter to charge the community health center and not to ask us for money. so everything went as if we have OHIP

That is really very nice!! Please do make use of these community health center, I suggest first to visit SAFSS also!!

Warm regards,
Nadeem

One word...
Don't!

Qorax

is the US driving license valid for swapping with a Canadian even if it is expired upto 1 YEAR or is the validity of 6 months after expiry?

Add this to Captain's (Qorax) quote.

If the license is expired, it should be < 6 months of expiry.
You need the driving history/ details from your DMV ( for a couple of states in the US, they would accept without the letter ).

But while applying, they would ask for 2-3 pieces of proof and you would need the Bank statement etc for the address proof here along with landing papers and passport. For this would need to have been inside the country for a month or so.

otherwise you have to go through the entire procedure as a normal person.
