Hi Friends,

After landing can you rent a car and drive on your origin country driver's license or International driver's license till you get your PR cards done and apply for local driver's license?

Thanks!

Yes, but check your province's rules on how long you can drive on your home country licence once landed. Drivers' licences are provincially regulated. Which province are you in, & which country do you have a DL from

You do not need to wait for your PR card to exchange/apply for your DL. COPR is sufficient.

Has anyone landed in Vancouver recently? I landed in mid September and didnt receive the PR card till now. How long does it take in Vancouver to receive the PR card? Anyone with recent experience?

Thanks

You have barely reached the "normal" processing time. Don't worry about it.

Dear Lammawitch, my current license is from Dubai and I will be renting the car in Toronto ON.

You can legally use your Dubai licence for 60 days from your arrival date.

Unfortunately, you can't do a straight exchange from a Dubai licence to an Ontario one. You will need to take the driving test etc.

Hi Guys,

I have a quick question to ask to experienced member's.

We as a little family of 3 are intending to attend our MR appointment in UK (Maidenhead) by 2nd of Nov. If everything goes fine and we receive the request for PPR by end of NOV we will be planning to fly to Canada by mid Jan IA...

My situation is that I have Work Permit in UK as Tier II General and I am planning to stay max 3 weeks in canada around Jan (If Everything goes smooth).

Will it be possible for me to stay those weeks and come back and join my work as usual.

Do I really have to wait for 2.5 months for PR card.

Any reply will be a great help for us.

Please share your thoughts about what could be best possible way to handle the situation. 8)

if everything goes well and u have ur visas by January. If ur the principal applicant, u can do short landing in canada, stay there for 3 weeks to settle all the formalities needed like applying for ur PRcard SIN others that u shud and wud wish to accomplish with ur time. U can go back to ur place of origin , but since u applied for PR CARD and will receive it like after 2.5-3months,
U should have a canadian address
Of a relative or friend that u will write on the applicaionfo rm for cic will require it so they may be able to sed the PR cardin that address if prcard ready. Then ur relative or friend could arrange the pr card to be delivered to u in uk. U will not be able to enter
Canada again if u dont have ur pr cards with u.i dont know if there r other ways to enter without the prcards but i think u need the cards . U can read about the pr card appli in cic website ... Godbless u!

Sounds fine, although you should not book flights before receiving your COPRs. Your timeline might be a little optimistic.

Yes, as long as your employer grants you 3 weeks vacation

Do I really have to wait for 2.5 months for PR card.
PR card processing times change regularly. But yes, whatever the processing time quoted when you land, then you'll wait (at least) that time. Remember that you will need to provide a Canadian address for your PR card to be mailed to. Many people in your situation give friends' or relatives' address & have them send the card on to you when it arrives.

If you need/decide to return to Canada before receiving your PR card, you would then apply for a PRTD before travelling.

Hi Akkinikka,

Thanks for your thoughts and yes If everything goes fine then only I will take the following steps.

I have relatives in Canada who can take care of the PR card and send it back if everything goes smooth.

God Bless you too !!

Thanks a lot for your replies....

I have relatives back in Canada who can arrange the PR card for us...

I know I am being very optimistic and that is the only way to have peace and relief in your mind.

Hope we all reach our goals smoothly and successfully...

Thanks once again for everything.

It doesn't take that long to receive the PR card for newly landed immigrants. The current processing time is 44 calendar days (thats approx. 1.5 months)

it says Completed and in the details it says that you have entered Canada through airport XYZ and become a permanent resident on ABC.

My wife who is the Primary Applicant is going for her "Landing" Meeting at CIC Office. She is not carrying any list of good to follow. When I'm going enter Canada next month I'm going to carry some small items with me and some Jewelry belonging to my wife. Does she need to declare anything in today's meeting?
